Is a ratting terrier not a worker ? They a lot of lads ,lasses across UK ratting with terriers are they not working the dogs they keep or is it only fox dogs that are workers? I have no problem with people using there dogs for ratting work. But people breeding dogs that have never seen an earth and selling them as workers I don’t agree with. There are plenty of jackers about that will make good ratting bushing dogs but shouldn’t be bred from imho 3 Quote Link to post

I know if I had a terrier id work it on rats go bushing ,ferreting as I don't want to go digging fox and Id want a pup not some dog that's classed as a jacker by fcuk knows who but I'd also do my best to get a pup from dogs going to ground but I would not dismiss a pup from good ratting stock Why not breed from good ratting dogs. The days of digging fox is numbered and as been for a long time and I do not see the law changing anytime soon. Right or wrong that's way it is Edited August 28 by Moocher71 1 Quote Link to post

Get out more You need to read what I wrote again,I never said folk wasn't digging did I ? What I said was not everyone wants a earth dog just like not everyone wants a hare dog. And yes the days of digging fox are numbered, how many hunts was they in UK 50 year ago? How many is they today? Of course you will have lads freelanceing and wrong or right they risk loosing dogs ,motor ,fine ,ban from keeping dogs and not everyone buying a pup wants to take that risk and same goes for lurchers . 1 Quote Link to post

Only met him once at a book signing stall at chatsworth country fair and got into a disagreement about crossing different lurcher types. Some of the old boys have told me tales about him when he was a school teacher in Rotherham and the rough haired mongrel terriers he brought with him from Wales. An example of the rough haired mongrels? Personally, I don't see the need to add beagle, Stafford or KC Fox terrier, never seen them graft though so just from an aesthetic point of view. Each to their own. 2 Quote Link to post
