Deerhound X

Recommended Posts

Looking for recommendations on what to go for my next pup. Ideally Deerhound X. Got purebred deerhounds , but as most people will know there not as capable as a X. Any advice appreciated. Just no other X really takes my fancy.

Cheers

Put these up before. Wheaton greyhound x deerhound greyhound.

Deer bull grey big fast powerful dog 10 this year put a lot of roe away for me

I think it’s only the first crosses that go 28/29” mate. Second crosses can be a lot smaller.  I had an Ashington bred second cross dog, early 70’s , that went 25/26”. When he went over a

Its getting harder to find good deerhound blood with proper working stock in it these days, almost non existent just like good working bedlington blood as rare as hens teeth, i always loved and kept deerhoundx greys, from the1970s, the ones that  i would go for now and would give a try to would be the type that charts is keeping now like me the man well knows what to expect and the capabilities of the deerhound x.i would still be in the market if the right stuff came along, i believe some of the irish boys are still breeding them at at realistic prices instead of telephone numbers, good luck in your search.

I’ve got a keen pure deerhound bitch letting her have a pop this season as she’s showing the right signs, if i can work her and she does what i ask of her id like to do a litter in the future, maybe a beddy grey, collie gray, bull grey or wheaten grey X. Or just a grey over her for a first X , Unsure but i am aware she won’t be as capable as a deer x grey or other X will be.

What age is your deerhound bitch, if she got any coursing blood in her pedigree it will certainly help and she will work well for you, all the xs you mention about breeding her sound right to me, just my preference but i would stick to deerxgrey  first cross. Just remember mate dont try and start her too young as deerhound and deerhound hybrids take a while to fully mature usually about  18 months before i used  to give them a bit of proper work , but thats up to the individual that owns  them, but saying that atb with her, what pedigree is in her breeding.

I’ve got all her pedigree stuff at the house, i rehomed her at 8months. She’s had a rabbit already (un planned)🤣. But Should see her when she sees a Bambi, i think she’ll do well for a pure as not many work. I’d be happy enough if she does some rabbits and hopefully a bambi or 2. She will be 16months by september time, Will start her around then but won’t be worked crazy as she’s never properly worked or seen much work, will get her out with my mates seasoned dogs
