I wonder if Alan’s skill and success with coursing types was somehow influenced by the way his dad and the men around him could condition a whippet ?

He used to be on here, his opinions would be well worth hearing.

Cheers.

It's similar getting a dog ready for a comp ad it would be a race

Sort of but then theres land were it is running conditions we're to slip were not to loads a fast types look million quid on good going

Yeah, don't slip on land or in conditions that's gonna feck up your dog, but if you are refusing to slip a dog because you don't fancy it's chances then you're not a proper dog lad for me. Of course I'm talking fair slips and not one where the dog has no chance.

Getting something ready for a  day running 3 is a lot different to.running big land every week mate

He went that black.land fen dogs for his best didn't he ?

Dancer wouldn't last on the wet running until.one missed against likes blonde or lucky etc in my opinion anyway

Which your entitled to . But who wants to flog dogs week in week out . Much rather manage a dog . Jmho

I know that, but I meant moving on from race dogs to coursing dogs. I know plenty , including myself, that started with racing whippets and greyhounds and got knowledge and experience from the old timers how to condition a dog.
I doubt that many could simply get a running dog and bring it to the peak of condition at the right time without any sort of background in the game .

Maybe some could, but having advice from the lads that have been there must be an advantage?

Cheers.

Each to their own mick . But hypothetically,  if you were to run a wee Scottish whuppet x on slop and it beat you . Would you get rid of your charge or simply suck it up and take the ribbing ?

Same with the land, where were they run? I bet some lads that entered them had run the area many times and their dogs were familiar with the land? Dodgy slips, lads refusing slips, I bet it all goes off.
