Mc i was at the gym for 20 years all in all. bulking up then stripping down. A started doing lighter weight more reps. f***ing the carbs off. Just eating white meat, fish, eggs , veg , fruit. It can be done if you put the work in. Half hour on treadmill half hour on rowing machine , twice a week. Its not all about weights. Its okay looking good on the outside and not inside. Just like a motor mate. Car means shit if under the bonnets not been looked after. Doctor told me after that 5 hour op. Any jo average may have not made it. Said lucky you was in good shape. I know 3 people that's died from a duodenal ulcer. That Tara tomkinson celebrity. 2 fellas near me. One up Eastmoor other side of town. And one abit closer. Im lucky mate. Many might not train but lads around me where I live most have kept it up. Ive seen many that dont go chasing drugs want to change go to gym. Then when out there back doing the same old. Drugs or in boozer coked up again. Sad to see decent lads too bit of character. But hanging around with same idiots on the road wont be helping. Its just a fact of once you hit 50 you don’t heal up as quick if you heal up fully at all, little knocks and sprains and injury’s that took a week to be fine in your 20s or 30s will take a month or maybe never mend at all….thats just how it works, every human is built to peek and then fade. Me and our youngen was on it yesterday late afternoon. Hard going in the heat. Its good but first few weeks takes the skin off your knuckles. After that your hands get used to it. Because his teeth were all over the place. A said to him why didn't you go to Turkey. Told me if owt goes wrong. Over here wont touch them. So its a flight back over there. I’m on about just doing what you want to do once you reach a certain point in your life, I don’t eat “shite” as you put it…..I enjoy a decent meal of well cooked proper grub. You won’t find me in the chip shop 4 times a week, but you also won’t find me not having a cod and chips by the sea if a fancy one. I gave up drinking when I was 24 because drinking and trying to build a life never went together for me personally, I’m no zealot about it, I just didn’t want the foggy head or to be out of control, I needed to get up very early every morning and I needed to be able to get places at a moments notice…..so for me it was a practical decision and one I’ve been quiet happy to stick with. But even that’s said, if the occasion or the company feels right I will enjoy a beer because I feel like it……but I may go 3 or 4 years and never taste a drop of alcohol and that’s been consistent since 24. I can happily go in a pub and not drink, my pals used to say “How can you not have a drink in the pub” and I used to say “Easy, I don’t order one”…..because, as Gnasher alludes to, most of this stuff comes down to peer pressure. Ive been 28 and in absolute peak condition and now I’m retired and it’s some other young man’s time to be all that…..I’m enjoying what I want to enjoy while I’m still here. So, if you ever cook me a steak make sure its in plenty of butter with loads of garlick and bloody as hell, tip the brown butter from the pan over the top when you serve it and I’ll be 54 enjoying that while I watch 40 something you lift weights and eat tablets from Holland and Barret ! lol 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
