Its new to the pup he's been with his siblings living the life. He's gone to new surrounding. Not all pups are same. Some go in themselves for a few days. Then all of a sudden they come around. Like you say leave him miss a meal. He'll soon wolf it down in morning.

Keep fresh meat in the ‘fridge, just feed a golf ball sized amount at regular intervals until the pup loses interest. 

Pups will keep you busy.
