Recommended Posts

What would you say is the faster dogs, according to some the coursing bred accelerates faster than a whippet and has just as much top end as a greyhound.

So, they will beat a greyhound to the first turn on winter wheat?

Thought the saluki was 3/4 mph slower than a grey on paper?

Which is a lot really, around 10% slower.

I’m gonna say it , in the scheme of hunting , do you genuinely need to be sweating about percentages ?

buddy the coursing dog saw many much faster dogs off as he was purpose built to run in the wettest of grounds and his prey drive was the highest I’ve ever seen.

that was lost if he was put to greyhounds

Doesn't mean a thing but it's one of the most simple of crosses made, a half cross back to a greyhound, some people like that because for some reason they like to know exactly what's in their dogs.

the only pups I’ve seriously considered the last few years have been scrap bred lurchers to a coursing stuff that’s been hammered . If there was a man breeding a half collie grey to a decent line from the fens , I’d take their f***ing hands off

I'd agree, but I wouldn't say they would be quicker than a 3/4 greyhound like some claim, but, it doesn't matter, the only thing that really matters is if they catch.

Speed means f**k all when it’s from greyhound blood to an animal already half bred , it’ just adds fragility imho

I don't fully agree, some half crosses don't have a chance of catching hare on a regular basis, good 3/4 crosses can.

Ok then mate I must have been seeing things with my own eyes lol. That was hares local, up Swinefleet, Selby, Caistor, Market Rasen. They can't have all been bad hares even if they are not on the level as the legendary Hull hare. Lol
