My late son was part of a shark survey team in the Red Sea;   He spent a lot of time swimming amongst them and tagging them. Cheers

He was the spit of you charts , what an experience to have had...

I saw the pics of you swimming with the goldfish.

Only species of proper shark that I have seen in real life are Blue sharks. Proper by my definition being true predators, Whale and Basking sharks are pathetic sharks, shark vegans almost. Caught plenty dog fish species, love them, but the Blues are beautiful things. Not proper sharks even, not big enough to eat people, but lovely and shark enough to appreciate. On a boat catching them, not swimming with them.

My eldest son (he has dove/snorkelled with sharks in a few places) said the best place for numbers of whale sharks are the Galápagos Islands and the sea of Cortez for numbers, but there’s a few places in SEA where you can almost guarantee an encounter.

That’s the ones. Have you seen that documentary about them? Fishermen going on about mates falling overboard and never seen again….. Nah!

Edited to add; think the doc was Baja California/sea of Cortez.

I get edgy if I can’t see the bottom if I’m swimming or snorkeling in the sea. Yet have no problems in deep lakes or rivers.

2000 that's a crazy number but when you think of the immense area maybe, at least the pollution side of things maybe not to bad..
