Dan Burns headed goal seemed to defy physics ! Hearing whispers about Anthony Gordon, could he be gone in the January transfer window ????? Back down to earth on Sunday, away to Brentford, can we win an away game ? Cheers. Anthony Gordon is bit of an odd ball IMO. Seems a grounded down to earth lad but at the same time often has a "billy big bollocks" attitude in games. I love to watch him play all the same, for when he does what he can do is joy to watch. Lewis Hall back on the pitch last night could have a massive impact on Gordon's season. But, if his heart is at Liverpool, so be it. f**k him.

Not really watched him to make a study but if what you describe is true then that’s exactly how you want a player imho. Humble off the pitch, good trainers, grafters, on time, full of encouragement to other lads, pushing other lads by example……then on the pitch an attitude that says “I’m the master of my opposite number, I’ll do what I want when I want because you can’t stop me” Thats exactly how a player should be, again jmho……you want smart players, players who do the right things in the right moments like for instance knowing when to just do a simple 5 yard bounce and move again and when to recognise space in front and drive at it, knowing what they do well and honing it but also players who are brave, who want to go at the opposition, who aren’t afraid to make mistakes but have the character to make up for it in the next 1,2,3 actions. Nobody wants players who are as afraid to loose as much as they want to win…..it’s one of the reasons the premier league has become so boring, every technical detail planned out to finest degree to negate the other team instead of just going and beating them. Look at all the chat surrounding Arsenal, it’s all about how good the defence is…..and they are nicking games 1-0 from set pieces…..boring as f**k ! Nobody is going to tell me that’s better football than watching Bergkamp, Henry, Pirez etc absolute carve teams apart and score goals as beautiful as you will ever see. If only every player was the collar up Cantona or the laughing R9 or the quirky DiCanio…..way better to watch.

The problem with Gordon is that he APPEARS to raise his game when playing for England, playing in UCL games and against “top six” teams in the Premier, but his performance drops considerably when playing against “lesser” teams. To be fair, he HAS been carrying a hip injury for some time, so maybe he nurses this injury against some teams. I hope he gets back to his best, but we have a good replacement in Harvey Barnes. Cheers.

Declan Rice did nothing but fight fires in Moyes system but has been free to do much more since joining Arsenal….maybe the way England play suits him better and allows him to show the best of himself ?, maybe UCL opponents wouldn’t be as used to him so he gets 5 or 10 more yards of space and freedom ? I genuinely don’t know but I don’t think players at his level can’t be bothered and pick and choose where they want to perform ?

Gordon is quick and skilful so obviously the opposition will try and stop him playing, not always fairly (you make good point when overseas opposition are not as aware of his ability). If no foul is given, particularly in the 1st half (how was it not a foul in the 1st half but is in the 2nd?), he will often stay on the ground or get up and whinge to the ref. Reducing us to 10 men and this has happened a few times when losing possession in our final 3rd (mostly since Lewis Hall and Livramento have been out) and they then go on to score or test the keeper. During his 1st few seasons here he would get straight back up and help his teammates get the ball back or often do it himself then we are straight back in attack, which I love to see. Despite my complaint, I'm not complaining , he's good and I think has the potential to be very good. Despite the fact that he is the spitting image of a cousin of mine from the Irish side, Moyra, a lovely lass but not the bonniest. Not long ago the only reason to watch Newcastle was in the hope that Maxi would create some magic, now we see it all over the pitch week in, week out. Winning a cup and playing in the Champions League, long may it continue.

JonnieShankar 0 Posted yesterday at 11:29 Report Share Posted yesterday at 11:29 I’ve just started looking at some of the early fixtures, could be some cracking games. Hoping we see a few surprises this season, especially from the promoted sides.
