Think a lot of us older one liked football when we was young. I used to follow West Ham in the Geff Hurst, Martin Peters , Bobby Moor days proper footballers. My parents supported Manchester United and every body else seem to as well so went for West Ham to piss them off and they used to score a lot of goals back then.

But foot ball went down hill for me when they started importing players from abroad and nobody from their home town. Then the falling down in the box if anybody came near them to win a penalty, win a penalty what's that about. Diving like Tom Daily.

I'll watch a international game but league I'm not interested any more.

Cheers Arry

Thats fair enough we cant pretend the game is as pure and honest as it once was but the trade off for that is we now get to watch some of the greatest players from around the world week in week out.....i dont get these people who rant on about what fairies players are like its some kind of toughman competition....whoever decided footballers should be macho any more than a cricketer or tennis player should be....ive never quite understood that.

You chose the right team to follow anyway mate

Just ask mchull he will know

The wealth of knowledge on THL is mind blowing.. 1, water table and drainage experts. 2, welding and fabrication specialists. 3, boxing expert discussions Techniques and tips for boxers

I don’t ever go on the football thread as my expert opinion is that dogs chase balls not people, but most blokes can talk a glass eye to sleep on that subject

Don’t agree with that mate, contact sport is, well, contact !

It gives so many good life lessons about physical and mental robustness….I think watering that down is criminal personally and I don’t blame people one little bit for thinking someone who got a shoulder barge is a minge for rolling around like they have been killed.

Just get up you c**ts, if they want ping pong rules then they should go and play that.

Come on mate you've played sport, nobody likes the amount of simulation/cheating thats in the game but you'd have to be naive as f**k to think every footballer that falls over rolling around is a delicate little mincer......a cheat yes.

And lets not pretend it didnt happen in the good old days when men were men 🙄its the nature of top level sport to try and get an edge over an opponent.....if you wanted to give a young lad " life lessons about physical and mental robustness " as you say then you wouldnt take him anywhere near elite level sport you'd take him down his local boys club where that type of gamesmanship/cheating doesnt exist.

No, fair shout mate, I thought you was suggesting that physicality should play no part in football and I just didn’t agree with that.

I personally don’t think you can compare contact to non contact myself.

I agree that the speed and physicality of some tackles just don’t come over on the tele, and tele is most peoples connection to the game.

Did have mates when young but when you come home from school and find your house packed in the back of a van and family waiting to go because we were moving again you kind of get used to not getting to attached, done lots of fighting and thieving there’is always a pecking order and when your the new kid all the time you start at the bottom but totally agree with the second part and have spent months of my life driving my children to everything I possibly can and will do the same for the grandkids

Must have had pals as a kid though mate no ?.....we was all latch key kids round our way " dont come back till its dark " and all that.....you just find a way as kids though dont you, maybe it is just different rules in different areas round our way if you didnt fight, thieve or kick a ball you was looked at as either a bit weird or a bender....not saying thats right of course.

Best thing you can do for a kid today in my opinion, put as many different sports and hobbies in front of them as possible and let them find their own talent and passions.
