My pup Tino yesterday..he's unfortunately carrying an injury at the moment which is preventing us cracking on with his education,especially jumping & anything more than just walking really..pups doing what pups do 'playing and fighting' his sister Maggie ran directly in front of him when he was coursing about & he hit her side on & had his front end taken away & he skidded about 10-15 foot on what looked like his chin,it took him around 30 seconds to gather himself up off the ground,he walks 100% sound but I can see at a jog he's not stretching out on his front end,it's nothing untoward but it's obviously sore & bruised in his chest area,so steady away for a fortnight & in the portamag a couple of times a day for him. Initially I thought nothing of it but my lad had him out over the fields just continuing the pups livestock training & he rang me to say Tino wouldn't & couldn't jump even the smallest of fences & gates which rang alarm bells straight away as he'd been jumping gates etc at 4 1/2 month's old. I was just at the boneman's last week too so could have had him looked over just to be sure, anyways I'll have him looked over before the season starts along with the others just so they are all good to go..there's never a stress free day when you have a team of dogs that's for sure..

not been funny or out mate but ive notice since you went there n on grey and bull blood you have had a lot more injury’s lame dogs ? 

just what ive  seen on here didn’t one doe it’s neck another something?

Dogs don't get injured so much running on slop mate wi no obstacles

Being honest mate in recent year's I've had a real bad run of bad luck regarding injuries,Boots chipped a bone in his wrist that curtailed his coursing days at the age of 5,he still mopped a few up daytime & I even took him lamping to keep him busy & to keep him content but the injury put an end to his better days spinning them,your right in regards to Bear breaking his neck,he hit a beast at full speed & took himself & it into a ditch,it died on impact & left him with a broken neck. Don lost an eye when he had a beast on the floor by the throat & as we know on occasions they can lash out with their back legs,a freak accident if ever but that left him blind in one eye. Rose then decided to snap both bones in her front leg when out grafting,again just very unfortunate,to be fair she came back from that in better form than prior to breaking her leg,she has always been a sharp little thing & has put lot's of gear to rest both day & night since then in fact she's done 4/4 & 5/5 with a metal leg & has had really good hauls on the lamp too. Kali of my Mrs at the back end of last season broke a metatarsal bone & now Tino is sidelined..it is what it is bud,I won't ever wrap any of mine up in cotton wool,I'll run them anywhere..all my current dog's old & young are 5/8 Grey so that maybe doesn't help in regards to injuries and with the added bull blood (albeit not much) together may very well be a mitigating factor into their injuries? They are all stupidly keen,very high prey drive & although Boots did get a serious injury he was far more laid back than these other thing's,they are forever revved up & definitely more likely to sustain injuries more so through being stupid & just not seeing obstacles/obstructions etc,once their sights are set on something they would follow it off a cliff I have no hesitation in saying that..they just don't seem to sense dangerous situations at all.. basically the fuckers are thick mate

just bits a remeber reading mate i always enjoy your posts mutts always well 

ive been there myself with a half grey like you say there keen lol sometimes to much that was my most knocked up dog by a long shot but a great all round lurcher

It’s part of the game sadly.

They don’t get injured lying in the kennel.

i’d sort of agree but i disagree aswell lol 

id say most injury’s are most likely young and certain breeds like out heavily half or more grey are a lot more prone threw style aswell as not been as tough 

the first obstacles in season full pelt in kill mode is were the slip ups happen now some most will stop doing summersaults risky takes slow up at thins just by maturing and realising it’s not needed this is maturing and brain 

some are just hundred mile an hour no brain just want to taste it lol

The more it gets out , the more chance of getting injured !

Doesnt matter how “smart” or what type a dog is, hitting wire, farm machinery, a foot going into a hole , getting hit by a car, whatever.

A pure greyhound lying in its kennel or just lead walking won’t get injured, but get it out hunting, sooner or later it will ! Same with any type.

Of course, some types are more injury prone, but that doesn’t alter the simple fact; the more work they get, the bigger chance of injury.
