Rat bait

Hello guys, Im looking to get back out now i have purchased a hw110.

What would you guys recommend putting down to attract rats out? I was thinking maybe peanut butter? Or cat food? Something that they can smell but can not pick up and run away with.

Years ago I mixed peanut butter , chocolate spread and aniseed oil in together.  Didn't get a answer if the aniseed was a marked improvement but in loads of old trapping things I've read aniseed (anise) was always mentioned as a powerfull attractant for all animals . Its definitely got a potent smell . It's quite cheap aswell

I found coffe granules good and convenient for storage and use. I also put them in my fenn trap box works a treat.

Liquidise a tin of cat food with some oil and spread about just something they cant pick up and run away with something they need to stay to feed with .

I have been using cooking oil, cat food, smooth peanut butter all mixed in a blender. The smoother the better so they can't drag it away. The smellier the better too!

buy tesco value peanut butter, mix it 50/50 with vegetable oil, and put it out. they'll sit there and lick it up for you, keeps rats nice and still.

We found that strawberry jam gave the best results no matter where we used it.

They seem to enjoy my chicken feed well enough. For bait in live catch traps a piece of sausage or burger works well.

Missus has done well on the mice using Nutella, I'm amazed she'll part with any....
