That also works the other way, they also need to have filmed him assaulting the bloke unless he has been silly enough to admit it.

They'll be cctv all over that place ...as long as it was reasonable force,  he didn't stick the boot in ect  he'll be rate

If someone is in your grill threatening to kill being aggressive then  a preemptive strike is perfectly reasonable under the law , hands don't need to  be thrown for you to strike

cctv footage of that area has shown @WILF walking down them stairs beforehand discussing carping in chalk ponds and the poor fella arced himself like a javelin into the deck

That's with the assumption that footage and sound has been captured. You won't have a leg to stand on if it's your word against his.
