The deputy stick of mine that a good mate gave me when he passed away that was his Father's gave when he retired and he put a coin in the indent at the top.

Used to see them all the time growing up...some of the old fellas from the pit villages used to put badges all over them

I know an old boy who I did my underground CPS with when I first started when he retired they gave him a deputys stick and a Davy lamp and his checks with his number he had had for 46 years he had worked at the pit since being 14 years old. I often think about him as he was one of life's characters you meet in your life to say he had worked down the pit all his life he lived another 23 years after retiring at 60 a lot wernt as lucky.
