jukel123 9,290
This is the goal De Get conceded. He's a disgrace. I can't believe the ref is criticised. I remember the 1956 cup final. Bert Trautman, the Man City keeper suffered a broken bone in his neck during the game. When he went up for his medal, his neck was visibly crooked. He was a kraut. His signing for City did not go down well. 20000 people demonstrated outside the ground when he was signed. Not surprising, since Salford was flattened during the blitz and he was a former Luftwaffe member. Tough guy..f****n kraut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTADqIuQgHA Edited October 18, 2023 by jukel123

They seem pretty much like us in outlook. They like the same sports. They drink gallons of beer and scoff rubbish food. They have produced some awesome footballers but very few top boxers. I wonder why? I was brought up to hate the jerries, not only did they bomb our chip shops, but every house and factory in our area including the docks. I can remember a kraut stopping me in Corfu and asking me 'Spracken die deutch ?" My first thought was 'tell him f**k all, he's the enemy. He's trying to trick me.' Thats what they did in the comics, they tried to find out if you were a spy.Lol I eventually settled on 'nien'. Which I thought was pretty quick thinking.Lol On that same holiday we signed up for a cruise and a barbecue. After a while we realised it was a rip off. They dropped us off on a tiny Island with no shade and nothing to do. I was in a bad mood. However, to sweeten the pill, they gave us gallons of cheap local wine. I was pouring out two glasses. The bottoms of the glasses were resting precariously on the sand. Along came a man- mountain of a jerry and he grabbed both glasses by the stems. I quickly thought to myself 'if he thinks he can f**k off with those glasses and treat me like a waiter, I am going to chin him and sod the consequences. So I finished pouring and he handed the glasses to me and said ' there you go my friend.' A case of mistaken intentions.Lol Edited October 18, 2023 by jukel123
jukel123 9,290
Very bored tonight. So another tedious post. Just been reading this article. BBC sport readers have got to be weird coming up with this golden 11. Pickford? Pickford? Pickford? I had to look at the date to check it wasn't April the first. No place for Shearer? Lampard? I can think of half a dozen others. Saka is brilliant but he's a kid, his stats haven't even begun to be counted yet. No Paul Scholes? Kyle Walker over Gary Neville? Your England Golden Generation XI - BBC Sport WWW.BBC.CO.UK No Paul Scholes? Kyle Walker over Gary Neville at right back? BBC Sport readers have chosen their 'Golden Generation XI' made up of players from the modern era...

Not a bad side that though, always hard to pick between generations...id certainly agree with the centre backs though!
NEWKID 28,425
Heres one...if Southgate doesn't win a trophy will he be seen as a failure? Robson and Venables from recent'ish years are seen as successes to many, they were close, but still only a semi final... Southgate reached the final, a semi, qualified out of the hardest group on paper this time... but... he has hell of a squad of players, this lot really can win something?? I think Southgate done alright but seems a bit to defensive and at times negative always safety first but for me I would like to see a manager with more attacking minded tactics with the squad Southgate has attack is the first form of defence Edited October 18, 2023 by Blackmag

If you look at the attacking players he uses, he always plays 4, this time Kane, Rashford, Bellingham and Foden, with 2 holding midfielders.. Rice and Phillips.. who would you lose? Would you leave out Phillips for say a fit Saka, or Maddison and play Bellingham as a no 8 type midfielder? I thought he was fantastic in that no 10 role the other night, maybe shoe Horning all of our best attacking players in one side will destabilise the team?
NEWKID 28,425
I'd also say, he allows both full backs to join attacks as he has that protection in midfield, Walker and Trippier are both very attack minded full backs, or Shaw when he's fit...maybe what looks defence minded is quite a balanced way to attack?

WILF 49,729
I think Southgate has been frankly amazing for England, he has lost 1 game ! The tournament football style he has instilled works well, it’s measured and relentless……a leaf out of Germany’s book maybe ? Its the right combination (imho) of steady defensive sense and fast attacking players with good combinations……as a unit, this is the best England team we have seen imho. Its a measure I think of what he has done in that lads are talking about the team with a realistic sense of “we should win something” rather than the hopeful dreams of “look at all the players, we should win something” but always knowing it would be a miracle. I don’t think lads do see it as a miracle now and that’s down to Southgate. As for the backs, and I have watched McGuire make some absolute Sunday league mistakes, sometimes the best coaching you can do is to trust lads and let them know they have your trust. jmho

A couple of penalties going the right way anf we could be European and World champions...small margins at the very top level!
