They didn't really hand over ower in that way. When we joined the EEC there were no political sides to it. All that came later step by step. Each agreement took away a little more sovereignty. The national politicians were grateful that many of the unpopular laws introduced could be blamed on Brussels even though the same laws would have had to be implemented nationally. We sleep walked into it bit by bit. Now the tail is wagging the dog and the European people are increasingly starting to wake up to the reality. If it wasn't for Covid and Ukraine the EU would be at war with itself as national politicians are increasingly fearful of losing domestic support by promoting the EU.

I agree, I didn't mean our sovereignty was handed over in one go.

The Treaty of Rome, the Maastricht Treaty and others, handed more and more power over individual states to the EU.

No one party was/is to blame......Gordon Brown snuck off and signed a treaty in the middle of the night after the others had signed, John Major lost his job basically because of Maastricht, Blair and Mandelson wanted us to join the Euro, May wanted to sign a deal that would mean Brexit in name only, Johnson lied to the Nortern Irish to get his deal over the line.

What people forget is we voted to "leave the European Union AND ALL ITS INSTITUTIONS " There should never have been ANY deal, we should have left in its entirety and then negotiated what deals we would do with the EU and the rest of the world.

Cheers.
