philpot 5,115
I am just sat here looking out at some very cold wintery weather with fallen temperatures and rain thinking to myself what is going on, we had some stunning sunny days and as my wife has got covid, it allowed us both, with space between, to sit outside and enjoy the days but I tell you what, I am really having trouble getting my arse into gear and go shooting at night. I bought the new 007v and so far used it once...................come on you muppet get out there.....................................hmmm Now I have been out a few times on the pigeon with my new shotgun and really enjoyed that and Sunday afternoon popped round to my dairy farm perm for a session on the ferals and REALLY enjoyed that with 14 ferals and a maggie in the bag BUT neither my shooting buddy or myself seem to have the drive to go out at night. I do think that with covid lockdowns and the extremely high winds we have had over the winter months, we have simply got out of the habit of going out shooting at night or should I say no mojo for night shooting. I have lots of testing to do on a few guns and whilst I have done some, it is nowhere near conclusive in particular, slugs. It is a great shame there are no long indoor ranges near me and although we have our very sheltered and tree lined quarry range, it has not been ideal so far this year. In fact I have had a chat with another farmer to take one of our field target frames with heavy wooden back drop to his place and leave it there but his land is on top of the Lincolnshire wolds so greatly affected by winds but ideal for hmr. Trish and myself should have been in Anglesey this week but that was put back until next week due to her covid and as it is still with her, I am pretty sure we will have to change the dates again but the hotel is very helpful and I am sure they will assist again but we are both a bit fed up at the moment, only for the moment though as I am very rarely feeling down for long. Back to the matter in hand, 'mojo', with luck I am going out tomorrow night if the weather is ok to get on the ferals in the barns and perhaps the odd rat although with the sheer number of feral cats now living on the farm, we have gone from 1000 rats per year down to a couple in a year, such a shame as that was great sport and we desperately need to find another rat perm. I did a few tests with a .22 barrel liner that Mitch kindly loaned me for my FX Wildcat but in fairness it made no difference so I am going to sort that out and get it back to him. I am really happy with the Wildcat sitting at 34fpe using JSB Heavy pellets 18gr which does everything I originally wanted to gun for in the first place but since I decided to sell my Impact .25 fac I think some of the things I wanted to do also went out of the window. The Impact was a cracking gun although both my pal and myself were getting to the point that they were not fun to carry around without a shoulder strap and whilst mine was in the repair shop with a few faults, it took 3 months to get the parts in from FX via The Sportsman and during conversations with Tony from AGR Tuning, he said this gun has been fcuked about with inside, now that was not me as I am scared to death to tamper with these guns so as I bought the gun at one month old, I can only guess the previous owner did damage in there. It must be said that I had the gun for over five years and it gave me superb performance but as Tony said he would get rid and the fact that spares were becoming a real issue for the Mk1 guns, I said goodbye. My long term thoughts was to have the Wildcat shooting exactly as it is and to buy a new barrel for the Impact sticking with .25 but to set it up for slugs but that was not to be after reviewing the situation and buying a new one or even a Crown was too rich for my pension and at 70 you have to consider if it would be a wise move so here I am .25less and still wondering what to do and to be honest this is also part of what Fcuked up my mojo. The Northern Shooting show is coming up at the beginning of May which I am really looking forward to and I am sure both that and the summer weather will see me and my buddy out in the fields again with shotguns, .22lr, hmr and air fac and long may it then continue. Am I the only one to feel a bit fed up with things or are you the same. Phil Quote Link to post

Looks up local dairy farms Sorry to hear that you have no perms available Jake, we do well because we live in a rural village and know a lot of farmers so word of mouth get us plenty of perms. It is a pity you are so far away as I could pass on a couple, not brilliant but better than nothing and we don't bother with them. 13 hours ago, Dervburner said: Strangely I’ve been a bit similar. I know I said we were going out tonight on the ferals in the barns but believe me, it is VERY unlikely, oh lovely, just started to snow again..................... Phil Quote Link to post
