Re-finishing stock

Evening all

I've been refinishing the stock on my 686s and just got to the applying oil stage. When it had its horrible 80s lacquer it was quite dark, but now it looks loads lighter and I'm not sure on it. To anyone who's done one before, will it get darker with the more times I oil it? Cheers.

I doubt it mate. From here it looks nice but if I want a darker stain I use Indian rosewood colour.

I've got some alkanet oil. I might leave it out for time being, keep it that lighter colour.

Never have but looks very nice to me ! The wavy grain pattern on the end of the stock is a very nice touch imo

If you use linseed oil it will get darker with every layer but it might take 70-100y before it to dark.

only kidding, that looks spot on, I like a lighter coloured wood, you can see the grain stands out more, I had a lovely lanber that had a really light finish, looked a lot nicer than my 525

Then you dont`t have to worry it get to dark. Oil it once a year for a lifetime.
