Swmac 24
Does anyone know when the firearms application/variations process will resume to normal in North Wales? Not sure if I should include the word normal... Quote Link to post

I sent my renewal back at the end of October, it's not due till the middle of February but better early than late. I did it as a hard copy printed off. Then sent it in by recorded delivery. That way you know it's got there and it's an actual 'thing' sat there on some ones desk not just another Email. Quote Link to post

They are just using words like ...... covid / Brexit. / to cover the fact that there is no leadership or intent and that most of them are bone idle. As long as you got it in prior to 8 weeks before expiry date ( which you have ) they can auto extend an extra 8 weeks after under section 28b of the firearms act 1968. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/circular-0142018-limited-extension-of-validity-of-firearm-and-shotgun-certificates/circular-0142018-firearms-limited-extension-of-validity-of-firearm-and-shotgun-certificates Five years or so ago they were issuing section 7's like falling leaves but they aint allowed to do that now. But you might not even get it back at the end of the 8 week extension. Mine came back written out all wrong and I have had to send it back. It has fallen into a black hole and God only knows if or when it might resurface. They are under no pressure to do much. As far as they are concerned no one needs a firearm. And the previous crime commissioner stated that the fee didn't cover the cost, they didn't see why the police budget should subsidize the shooting applicants they aint exactly in any hurry. When the greater Manchester force didn't record over 220 criminal cases a day what chance have we got.? Oh I forgot basic is there for us. ☺☺. Quote Link to post
Meece 1,958
Right: It came back. But it's come back written incorrectly.!!! They've sorted out the stuff that was on the ticket that I didn't have.!! AND they've put the stuff on there that I did have. BUT they've now put the wrong caliber type for a weapon that I did ask for. I tell you. You could teach monkeys to issue tickets better than this. I don't know if I've got the will to fight it back through the system to correct it. or say " sod it", and buy a 20mm cannon instead of an air rifle. It's that bad. Ps. A friend had to send his ticket back 3 times to get his ticket sorted. Perhaps the people in the department are dyslexic or something. Edited December 23, 2020 by Meece Quote Link to post

Equal opportunities etc etc. I mean why have a competent person doing a job with so many subnorms about! Quote Link to post
Meece 1,958
I don't know about subnorms, it's just substandard. And the worst bit about it is that no one seems to give a "flying f about it" and those in power don't get called to account. The so called voices for our sport / discipline haven't got a clue and get run ragged by a sub such as kwis. Quote Link to post
Metalman2 45
At least you got to do something, according to Devon & Cornwall, their website stated resumes variations on the 15/12, so accordingly i sold a Rimfire on the arranged 15th to do a 1-4-1 which according to my Firearms had to be done in the 7 days you need to notify of sale Late on the 14th they moved the goalposts to the 12th of Jan , bang goes my “free” slot Quote Link to post
Meece 1,958
Well I don't know. Surely there is a president in that you were following their published guidelines. I'd give them an e-mail advising them of this fact. After all they do have to follow rules and they can only say no, so try it on. Push the limits to make them know we are still here.
