philpot 5,082
There are three new licenses produced by defra shown in a BASC email this morning. They are listed as GL40, GL41 & GL42, only had a quick glance but on first viewing, GL42 covers most of my shooting. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/wild-birds-licence-to-kill-or-take-for-conservation-purposes-gl34/valid-from-1-january-2021-general-licence-gl40-to-take-or-kill-certain-species-of-wild-birds-to-conserve-endangered-wild-birds-or-flora-and-fauna https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/wild-birds-licence-to-kill-or-take-for-public-health-or-safety-gl35/valid-from-1-january-2021-general-licence-gl41-to-kill-or-take-certain-species-of-wild-birds-to-preserve-public-health-or-public-safety https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/wild-birds-licence-to-kill-or-take-to-prevent-serious-damage-gl36/general-licence-gl42-to-kill-or-take-certain-species-of-wild-birds-to-prevent-serious-damage Phil 1 1 Quote Link to post

FOXHUNTER 5,021
Just studied them and a bit different to the old ones. Jay's can only be taken now to conserve endangered woodland birds . Magpies to conserve wild birds and direct livestock attack. How many shooters will use alternative methods first and keep records for 3 years detailing what alternative methods were used ,what serious damage they were causing and number of birds killed which must be produced if requested. I always have kept records anyway but now need to be more stringent. I can control pigeons , crows , rooks , jackdaws for crop protection. I can control magpies and Jay's as we have red listed birds on our shoot I including grey partridge , lapwing, curlew ,woodcock ,skylark and yellowhammer, song thrush. Just wonder if anyone will be made an example of I.e. not keeping records ? 2 Quote Link to post

Best way if you do get challenged, give them a good reason then back it up with a copy of the license to cover you. Edit to say, I always keep a copy of my cormorant license should such a challenge occur, although I’ve never needed to produce it yet. Edited November 11, 2020 by Dervburner 1 Quote Link to post
