While back I was stood back against a hedge calling a fox from way out and another ran out the hedge right by me ,no more than 3 yards away .I saw it in the dark it was that close .He only got 50 yards mind and stopped him with a whistle to join the rest on Boot Hill .Most of these foxes are from a chicken farm ,well 3 different farms same owner .Few from places where birds are put down as well .Shooting them on permission where they ain’t doing any harm seems senseless to me but just my take .

Haha how can electronic caller be "lazy hunter gizmo" but thermal is alright?? Strange logic!    BTW I use both

Excellent! i would love to hear your rendition of "vixen in heat" or "dog fox territory" by sucking on your hand. Perhaps you could record it for us and post it on here.

Tbh honest I’ve never found them to ignore a well made prey call in the rut mate .Called plenty even with a vixen screaming next field .

The last couple of outings a pray call has produced nothing as soon as we switched to vixen in heat, bingo, I had one running in the other night and the lad I was with switched the call to fox bark and it stopped in its tracks then shot off in the opposite direction ? the whopper

I just can’t make that shagging vixen sound no matter how hard I try ? most of the time when I’m out on my own I use a mouth call to good effect, I still can’t use one of them metal hare whistles though, I just end up spitting all over myself

Forget calls altogether and use palm of hand mate .Can vary it to suit any situation .?

The thing  is I have called hundreds using my hand too but noone can reproduce the calls on my Foxpro , mating calls , cub calls  , chicken in distress etc. Another factor is population density , where numbers are low like up North I wouldnt shoot very many if it wasnt for the Foxpro whereas where you have high densities like down South it's like taking candy off a baby ??????

It can be very variable.  I've known us to go through quite a big area on a private road/tracks and lamped the fields with white light... ( they are used to car headlights) and we've seen nothing.  We've then turned around and driven back the couple of miles and lamped the same fields and hey presto we've seen three or four, and not that far out either.  So where were they on the way down about 3 or 4 minutes earlier.? this was on a big commercial shoot with a lot of birds put down.

Ah the good old wigeon whistle , cut my teeth calling foxes with that call many years ago. How can you not use that call it is so easy to use,  just exhale through it.
