Thought it was about time my lad had his own nice little shotgun, he’s getting ready for secondary school and it’s in an old market town so I bet there will be a few kids in his year with them! i

Absolutely spot on Si. Good on ya mate, top dad. We don't get long before hanging out with dad isn't cool, so I'm same as you mate & grab every chance I can with them. Maybe I don't shoot as many

Took him to a chicken farm last week and I could see in his face he was mortified cos the 12b is just to big for him! think I’m as happy about it as him now, best thing to come out of this lockdo

I was saying similar to someone other day, she moaning can't wait for kids back to school etc I was saying I've loved them being off so long. Difference is mine have been shooting, tree climbing, sheep shearing, fishing, tractor driving, pond dipping, butterfly counting, bird counting, feeding pheasants, plumbing in water troughs, baling etc. Whereas hers have watched telly. Us country folk are weird, eh??

think we've about got the same list ticked ben.. I was rounding up the sheep on a bigred the other week!

that was a first for me.. ridden quads before but not chasing sheep round the dales ?

sod the tv get out and make the most of it ?

Henry is a really nice lad Si,  fast fingers with the electronis games, a lure angler, an airgun shooter and now a shotgunner............................what a little star, he will be able to impress his class mates.   The new generation of Yilditz are very very nice and a very different league to the Yilditz of old so I think we will all be interested to see how well he does over the coming months.

Good purchase Si.

I’ve got one of my theory’s ... Keep him wanting more , by that I mean don’t give it to him on a plate . My old man took me ferreting or fishing once in a blue moon . If I wanted to go I had to earn it in some way . And it sowed the seed of a lifetime of interest in all things field sports .
On the other hand I’ve seen friends who have sons do what you have done and buy them guns and take them with them all the time , then later on they lose interest and found other interests . On the other hand a mate has two sons who he got shooting from a young age , but they had to help him on the shoot with all the jobs , bagging wheat , cutting rides , fetching and carrying. And then and only then did he let them have a shot at something. It seems to have worked as one of the boys completed a gamekeeping course at Hartbury college and the other is a mad keen clay and game shot . I think it’s admirable that you encourage your son and he will hopefully follow in the old mans footsteps ....... just don’t make it too easy .?

cheers sl.. I know what you mean about handing it on a plate, got to confess I do spoil him but he's not a bad kid when it comes to saving!

I treat him to the field sports stuff but anything else he saves for, had him labouring on me most of the summer and hes saved all his money for a super computer so he can make his millions streaming YouTube vids.. think it'll be a wise investment as he says hes gonna look after the old man when hes rich  ?

my old man wasn't about much when I was a kid but he had me fishing and trapping from a young age and its never left me, he came back from work once with a French arrow for me!

my mum went mad.. think I was about 7  ?

I hope I didn’t sound as though I was preaching, because that’s not what I wanted to do . It’s just I’ve seen it happen.

My old man was Victorian in his approach to parenting, and to be honest it didn’t do me any harm .

That little Yilditz is a fantastic carrot to dangle . ? .He will look back on this as a fantastic memory. ?

Haha... didn’t get that feeling at all sl, I like your approach on life, there’s some great blokes in our little section?

got to confess I’d quite happily fit into the Victorian life.. always said I’d swap my time for my granddads the only bad part of that era was the wars
