I got some old 22ammo today for a bargain so put it to some good use, practice! It did me good.

Some of it was 22 short which I have to load singles but hey they are fun.

The old eley club ( a favourite of mine for years) was the best repeatedly hitting a 4" stone at 150 strides.

Good fun.

Had a chat with the farmer about my vixen from last night and was informed that the dog fox was sighted yesterday too! Not tonight though, knackered!

Looks like most of those eley‘s are from the eighties SD. How did you get on with the hv’s, I have some of those? Also have some eley hv shorts to use.

Actually the box was all mixed. I think some one had tried to guess which were HV.

I remember using this vintage eley decades ago and I liked them. They eley HV was always a favourite of mine. A true 22hv without trying to be bigger and better. Shot many a fox with out any dramas. Accurate in any 22 I owned.

These yesterday shot as expected. Whacking a 4" stone at 150y off hand and rested, I missed more off hand but not by much, my right eye goes writes after a while so have to struggle on or take a break.

The most fun was the shorts. I wish my rifle could feed them. They shot great, quiet and fun on steel gate posts.

I also zeroed the new scope. Well not new my mate at Croxton country store let me go through the armoury untill I found something I liked. I would of liked smaller but as long as it had a more normal reticle than the hawke vantage system I would be happy, another gimmick trap I fell into!

This is a hawke make but it seems to have slightly better optics and a mildot reticle in which I was guessing hold over better than squinting at ittybitty crosses with distance figures wrote next to them!

If any one wants a 3-9x40 hawke vantage 22 or subsonic scope in good nick make me an offer or what have you?

I have a Vantage 3-9x44, AO but the reticle is just too thick, I bought it a few weeks ago to use on my new HW99 springer, cheap but it is not for me. My pal bought an Airmax 30 compact which he is having trouble with the fine reticle so I am buying his scope which has a reticle that I am very familiar with as I have the full size Airmax.  I am pleased to see that Hawke have kept the side focus and IR so I am looking forward to getting it.

If I like it (I will for sure ), I can see me selling my other Airmax and Vantage WA ( which is vastly superior to standard Vantage scopes ), replacing them with these lighter compact scopes.
