Once you get comfortable with tooling, stitching, and finishing, there’s a lot you can branch into, wallets, bags, even custom holsters or saddlery.

Very nice a skill that not many have today dealing with leather it's a craft getting every to perfection the stitching right using the right oils or even leather soap it's something that a trade like that is hard to keep going

Thanks mate, yes I did. Just shaped a bit of wood and used that as a form.

Can anyone recommend a place to buy leather and tools..  and any youtube channels or websites or even books that do a idiots guide for leatherworking 

I want to make belts, pouches, a custom toolbelt and dog collars mainly but don't know where to start

Youtube is good mate. I would try face book for tools. Try to buy decent tools, a lot from china on ebay etc are just crap but not all. You can get cheap bits of leather on FB aswell.
