They said to me the police have told them not to provide anyone with their medical info.

I have contacted the police now to see what I can do.

You are entitled to your own medical records, they can’t refuse, but they can charge £10 I believe. Neither police or anyone else can withhold your medical records from you, they are your records and you can request them at any time you wish.

Mine was £32.

Are you or anyone else on here happy to pay this on top of the other changes for a cert.

What gets me is the fact that this has been dreamt up by random counties firearms departments.   There is no government requirement for this or any law stating so. Some cou ties do and some dont.  No one wa t's nutters to have guns but isn't this what the application process is for ? I've no objection to plod asking  my gp if  I am or are  likely to be a nutter but why should I  be required to pay for this information.  What it boils down to is .  Are you prepared to pay for work commisioned by a third party for their use ?  Basic are F ing us less because instead of asking generally about this, they ought to be challenging this directly in the court's if necessarily.  they claim to represent The hunting community so considering how  much it is to be a member they should get to it.  When did anyone on here see any comunication from basic about anything on here.  Because  I  never have. pretty P poor.

I hope that mine and all other doctors do this. Plod would have to rethink this nonsense.  For the life of me I  do not understand everyone's blind non complaining stance on this.   So how about you have to pay £500 for the Feo to come out to visit you.  Are you all going to take that also  What about £100 to print out yiour new cert.  £ 50 to post it to you.  Where does it all stop.

Ps.  I wonder who told them to  refuse all shotgun / firearms requests ??

Still some doctors are charging and not replying to plod anyway.  As far as I  know if the do has not replied within 20 days they proceed with the application as normal.

And then what are you going to do with them ?  How does some other doctor who has never ever seen you know what you are like or what you  may or  may not do in any given circumstance.

Please let us know what they say about this.  If and when you get a response.  Has anyone contacted their MP about what plod is up to?

How’s any doctor going to know, I’ve not seen the quack since 1997 when I went for jabs to go Kenya. I bet he couldn’t even say what I look like much less anything else.

The days of been in a quiet little practise and everyone knows everyone are long gone, those were the days when doctors were qualified to say if someone had the Potential to be a threat if holing an FAC o SGC

I agree.  I know that everything is online now but if you have only been to see your ....  somtimes doctor about  a twisted ankle or a sore Willie how does that determine what you are like when the Mrs is playing away or you've been made redundant and you can't pay the  mortgage.  I don't know what my neighbour might do in any given circumstance so all of it is a load of bollocks. As what happened to some of the people that have gone out on the rampage.  What about all these stabbings ect.  Who knew that xyz would go out a stab someone like the bloke on london bridge.

I believe you have a legal right to request copies of your medical records under Data Protection and maybe now the GDPR (?) and I believe from this web page that they now they cannot charge you as a patient even if they ask your for the whole record:

https://www.firstpracticemanagement.co.uk/blog/gdpr-and-accessing-medical-records-a-practice-managers-guide/

Quote

Under the DPA 2018, patients have the right to request access to their own medical records under a Subject Access Request without charge, including situations where they give consent for a third party such as a solicitor or insurer to access the data.

Quote

To charge or not to charge…

Where a request is made from an appropriate party for a medical report or record that already exists, then this can be made under a Subject Access Request, without charge. You can however charge what the DPA 2018 describes as a ‘reasonable fee’ if the request is ‘manifestly unfounded or excessive’.

Quote

Manifestly unfounded or excessive requests – you can refuse to provide this information or you can provide the information, and state the charges for providing this information.

The BMA have asked for clarification on what ‘manifestly unfounded and excessive’ means in practice. The ICO responded by saying: “A charge to cover administrative costs can be made for additional copies but we await guidance on what will constitute a ‘reasonable’ fee”. Again, there’s no definition of what ‘manifestly’ or ‘unfounded’ means in DPA terms, leaving it open to interpretation.

However, the ICO have said that “a SAR for the whole medical record would never be considered excessive for the purposes of imposing a charge.”  That means a patient asking for their whole medical record cannot be classified as an excessive request.

Note also: The Police have NO right to see your records, so you are under NO duty to supply them. Medical records remain confidential.

My understanding is what the GP is permitted to do upon a request from the Police along with your written consent to supply information is: they (the GP) can troll through your records and simply provide a factual summary of any relevant entries. eg. "Attended with depression on X dates. Treated with antidepressants on xx date. No further recorded instances of depression since". My understanding is the GP is not allowed to express an opinion, opinion of suitability, nor provide information beyond a factual summary. However, this is my understanding and as always I would urge anyone seeking factual and reliable information to rely on, to seek formal legal advice from a relevant body or specialist Solicitor. I accept no liability for inaccuracies.

It seems to me that this  thread has gone off track, as is usual with any sort of discussion along these lines. People just seem to take obscure ideas or incorrect interpretation of what the salient points are.  There is no point In  demanding  your  medical  records  because they aint going to be any use  firstly plod shouldn't /wouldn't accept them and they aint medically qualified.  As to basic saying that they can provide a cheap doctor to vouch for you.  That is disgraceful !!!  l. How can some random  doctor that's never even seen you,  cert you from third party records from you own doctors  who may  it have seen you in regard to anything that would be applicable. ?  All it means is that the org that is supposed to be representing  you has surrendered without a squeak and is probably taking a cut from a very greatfull doctor who is on a very good screw as a doctor and now is taking a cut for churning  out basically very suspect opinions on Patients they have no clinical experience of .  The whole process is completely flawed and riddled with loopholes  that potentially will let a nutter though.  Plod will say "well, it's  Not our fault.   We attempted to put in  place a procedure to avoid this .  Everyone in the process failed. Therefore no one should have a firearm at all.  Basic are completely F useless and like the dsc.  they were looking to make a quick buck out of it .  And the shooting public are stupid enough to not see that they are sheep being led on by a fifth column Judas goat.

At the end of the day it has nothing to do with public safety. That is a red herring to appease politicians, the general public and anti what every.

It's all a grand mitigation exercise because them that know the real facts know that plod in the past has aided nutters obtaining firearms for non legitimate reasons. Plod has also in the past ended up with blood on his hands via the mid use of firearms. They are torn, part of the organisation wants to bury it's head in the sand over legal firearm ownership but they can't so they feel forced to do something. Not to  the benefit of the firearm owner or the public ( despite their claims) but to cover their arses next time a loon slips through the net or there is simply an accident and it hits the news.

Then they can throw it back to the politicians, they in turn come out with more dumb laws or ban something so they can wash their hands of it and so it goes on and on and on.

Has no one ever wondered why an illegal 100year ban on the Dunblane enquiry was slapped on the files? Do we have to draw a picture!!
