Pants mate, won't cycle reliably. Some squib loads too. If I got five in a row to shoot well they were good but I won't bother again. The Fiocchi may not be the best and it showed up earlier but they are dependable.

Check the Winchester brass out, I ain't never seen 22 brass like that!

Single shoting it and yes the good ones were good just off hand shooting at 200yds they were very predictable but I won't bother buying more of them.

It may just be this batch as old 40grn win subs were very good.

Thought I would let you know.

Yerr, I’d don’t think the winnies are as good as the used to be. Xpediters and lasers used to be ok but I don’t know what the lasers are like now. The last Winchester subs I had weren’t very consistent though. I haven’t bought any Winchester.22’s for a few years, but looking at your experience SD, seems I made the right choice?

Never seen that either. Makes you wonder if manufacturers are cutting costs in the manufacturing process the last few years either with a lower quality brass bar stock or an shortened annealing process.

The last lasers I tried ( recently) are good mate. They are good performers and strong and that's the issue! Switching from subs to them is a drastic elevation change I can't be fussed with.

That's why I am interested in that hornady loading. It sounds like a strong standard velocity so with out a mod should be not to noisy but give a little more umph.

There was definitely a delayed combustion going on. I could hear and sense a "phutt" sound.

This  is usually when the bullet is popped out the case and kind of stops and then the powder kicks in. Can be dangerous in big rifles.

I’m going to try and pick some of those hornady’s up myself. The lasers changed from nickel to brass a while back didn’t they?,not sure why, but if they still perform well that’s what matters. Manufacturers have a good .22 product that sells well due to gaining a good reputation among shooters, then they either stop making them or change them, often for the worse. Eley 40 grain subsonic hollow xtra plus comes to mind.

That description is exactly how the .17s were suffering a few years back also the brass had splits on the neck as well a phut sound underpowered and more smoke than usual basically a squib, on one occasion it was so obvious I looked up the barrel and the bullet was stuck if I had fired another shot who knows how it would have turned out.

Moral of the story check your barrel if it don’t sound right.

I'd definitely explore other brands of subs. have to say I'm not a fan of HV's. I have shot them. They crack is almost as noisy as a small centre fire even when moderated and for very little gain in usable range. My choice for .22 would always be subs. If you need more oomph, then a hmr or small centre fire such as a Hornet becomes the logical choice. Where .22rf excels is in delivering ridiculously quiet shots which makes it ideal near houses or at night. If you're needing hv for range or knock down power, then you might as well step it up as even a small step up to hmr delivers considerably more of both. Need more then the Hornets make an excellent choice. Anything beyond that you obviously need a mainstream centre fire.

I'm sure Eley used to make some decent subs, but haven't been out with my mate with the FAC for some time now, so I'm unsure what the state of the sub market is.
