fireman 11,579 Posted July 21, 2019 Report Share Posted July 21, 2019 I know a young lass who's still a teenager and her dad died last year,he left her a old car a 1930's Austin and she can't keep it at where she's been keeping it any more and does anyone on here know of any where cheap(she's a apprentice mechanic so don't have a lot of money) she could keep this car near Exeter?.She's not learnt enough to get it back on the road just yet and nor does she want to sell it just yet either,it's not a proper state and isn't in to bad a nick so it don't look a pile of scrap.Anywhere safe and under cover and anyone can help in anyway there's a weekend of sport for you anytime you want from fishing.digging, running a lurcher or shooting some things... 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

During the summer i recon it'd do but it's a wooden coach built body(1936 Austin 10) so during winter not so good but if you could see whats about it would be grand indeed mate and thanks.... Stoney100 1,179 Posted July 21, 2019 Report Share Posted July 21, 2019 Honest advice from a scrap man who hears this type of situation daily........it’s already become a stress and she’s not even had to move it yet......she’s a trainee mechanic so it will be years before she can work on something nearly 100 years old.......bits/parts are going to be hard to come and then expensive when they do come up.....cheap storage is not good quality storage, time soon goes and the longer it’s stood outside/under a tarp the more ruined it will become......yes it has sentimental value but selling it to someone who would love it like her old man and using that money towards her apprenticeship is just as good (if not better) than leaving it to rot as it inevitably will.....not a dig in anyway it’s just I hear stuff like this all the time and it always pans out the same, that they should of sold it before it became a pile of scrap 3 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I offered a woman 1.5k for her dads wood chipper that was stood for a year, she said no cause of sentimental value and now its falling to bits and no one wants it off her just 2 years later, rats have chewed all the wires, waters got in the engine and hydraulic oil pipes have split so it’s more bother than it’s worth to get going again! Greyman 32,833 Posted July 23, 2019 Report Share Posted July 23, 2019 It’s not just sentiment I do it to make money, have bought and sold future classics for years, have a 1990 Saab 900 aero turbo locked away that I paid £800 for current value around £5k the series 3 £600 bought now at around £3k, buy and sell one or two every few years, a good clean unmolested early scooby would be what I would be after now for a big profit in a few years time but hopefully once I,ve got shot of my current crop I,ll be long gone, the secret is not to pay to much for storage as it will just eat any profit 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
