Jonjon79 13,358
On Monday I got a text from the grounds keeper at the rugby club - he's seen more sign of rabbits up on the top pitches. ...... Apparently they're digging it to bits and, giving him all sorts of grief. This place was my first permission and, the one that I've had the longest. ....... We've had it well under control for over 3yrs - the rabbits are still there but, they keep their heads down I haven't been there since April but, this is the area causing concern. ........ It looks like some of this year's crop are coming further out from the treeline. 1 Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
I popped up that afternoon for a look around - there was more sign. I also discovered that some b*****d had broken into the bar area i rang the grounds keeper to let him know and, I told him I'd pop back with the rifle on Tuesday night. Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
Tuesday night, 10pm - I had the 100 set up with the rangefinder and set off There were indeed rabbits on the top pitches - they haven't done that for around 2 1/2yrs. There was 5 out in total - it's such a wide open space, I stalked up to 2 of them and, at 50yrds, I hit the closest. It rolled over with a slight kick. ...... His mate panicked and didn't know which way to run - he came back to check on his friend twice. I took a shot but, he was so twitchy that it was a clean miss. I decided to go have a look at the other pitches. As soon as I went through the gate, there was one over to the right, just over 90yrds away. ...... I spent some time walking in - stopping everytime it looked alert. I'd almost got to my zero range at 39yrds when, I lost sight of it for a second and, the bugger was gone. It was as if it had just evaporated. Further round, I saw 2 - just to the right of a dugout, behind the chicken wire fence. ....... They were both very alert - I did wonder if one was my mate from earlier I was just over 50yrds away this time - I decided not to try to get closer. ..... Again, the shot was good - straight through the fence and, knocked over the rabbit with a right crack his mate only ran a few yards - I could see his eyeshine through the slats in the back of the dugout. i almost didn't take the shot but, I knew it was bang on 1 mildot ........ The pellet went clean through the small gap and hit the chicken wire - that lucky rabbit took off like a rocket. i called it a night at that - just as it started pissing down. i was happy with 2 3 Quote Link to post

I do enjoy being able to cook what I shoot That's the only problem with this place - it's easy to break into unseen - it's surrounded by woods and, there's never anyone up there at night Quote Link to post
