FLATTOP 5,289
Always used to go Brick lane on a Sunday Blackmans has been there for donkeys years, I remember Club Row when they used to sell the pups and other animals and I recall people fighting with the animal liberation people mad times. Another great memory was the Bird cage pub I went in there often as a small boy with my Grandad and he sold finches what he used to trap on the Mudchute on the Isle of Dogs there was a whole wall of the pub full of cages. Who remembers the National Front and Combat 18 who used to stand on the corner where the Army & Navy was, always used to have a good chat with those lads. Shit hole now wouldn't dream of going there voluntarily. it was some place back then , you could pretty much buy most feathered creatures back then , NF was part and parcel of the lane great days eh the flea pit proper london back then if i had to describe it now its "a seething mass of foriegn shit and slime totally ruined " Bang on GL I left in 86 just as the LDDC were pumping money into the Isle of Dogs where I was dragged up lol, pre 86 it was the proper island with genuine eastenders my Grandads voice can be heard on the History of the Island he was a proper character he used to sing in pubs whilst doing a hand stand, the Gun Pub and the George was where he used to sing. Columbia Road flower market was a regular visit and I used to frequent most of the pubs in and around that area all though you never had to leave the island I think there was 23 pubs and it's not that big. But like all good things it ended Mr Yuppy priced me out and it got swamped with immigrants I never go back now and only go to London if my company puts me on a course.
WILF 50,837
I feel you boys, my uncle lived at Wapping when I was a kid.....the whole family used to go in the Jolly Sailor when we went that side of the water to visit. I remember when they moved him to the new builds out of the old dirty brick flats. A proper grubby area for proper grubby London kids.
