The Old " Rule Of Thumb" Zero.

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

My respect to those who use chair gun and also to those who don`t.

I wrote about " best zero ranges" back in 2014, please take a look in the search engine :good: .

Basically, ( for us who don't like chair gun :duh::laugh: )

I always go for a zero of 38 yds in .177 cal,

The pellet is " always within" the one inch kill zone from 9.7 yds to 38.3 yds .

After 38 yds "hold over" will kick in , - my combination on the FWB Sport 124 gives half mill dot - 45 yds precisely and 50 yds precisely on one mill dot. - My maximum range.( rarely used) :hmm:

"

9/10 I hunt under 38 yds and over 10 yds. With .177,- this has proved a "lethal rule of thumb".

In .22 cal I zero at 28 yds

This gives a one inch kill zone from 7 yds to 31 and no hold under required, only hold over after 31.1 yds,- again according to your set up.

If you were to zero a .22 at 30 mts or roughly 34,35 yds, you run the risk of being outside the one inch kill zone from 11.5 mts to 25.5 mts due to the parabolic trajectory. :icon_eek:

Hope any of this helps

All depends on pellets being used .

I zero .22 at 30 yards using FAP pellets 13.4gr

.177 37 yards using AA express 7.9gr

Agreed mate, as I said with .22 especially, " according to your set up"

Height of scope , .

Weight of pellet,

Power of gun,

Blah, blah, blah.

Regardless of rocket science for air rifles the rule of thumb - gets you results !

Two yards difference to me in .22 and one yard in .177, - we pretty well agree Mitch, I`d have thought :hmm:
