mattwhite 1,993
Firstly I apologise for the essay your about to read. Secondly, let this be a lesson to us all when buying second hand. So to keep it kind of short..... After pellet testing the pro sport today it felt SUPER smooth. Tested using superfields at the guys house it was doing 10.9ftlb yesterday. I dont have a chrony at the moment so borrowed one but not until after the testing with jsb and aa fields etc. Both pellets were on the money and the gun hardly recoiling at all. I decided to strip and clean after that. Upon undoing stock screws all was fine until undoing the trigger guard where both were threaded and f*#ked. The large one had been tightened so much it had actually partially split the wood! Second problem was the cocking shoe Allen bolt. Unbelievably tight and again fu#*ed. Third issue, it had been given a delrin spring guide and kept the steel tophat but no washers, also absolutely tonnes of grease everywhere.....tonnes! When cleaned and lubed correctly and reassembled, although I wasn't happy with it by now I ran it over the chrony that had now arrived and with jsb and aa fields it was only doing 7.9ftlb so now I'm well pissed off. I thought about it and yes I could have ordered a kit or added a couple of spacers but why would I want to with it's other issues so I called the guy who genuinely had not even opened it up and explained my predicament. He asked me to go over and he would sort things out for me. Skipping the small talk it seems that for some reason it didn't like the skirts on my pellets and had actually dropped to 10.1ftlb with his superfields? Without any hesitation he offered an immediate exchange or money back so I opted for one of his suggestions, which is this Paul short tuned hw80 in .22, full power as we checked with lots of pellets and as smooth as silk. A nice outcome but I really was looking forward to owning the ps for a bit longer than a day. I will get some test posts of the up tomorrow. Sorry for the length of this post...i just needed to vent a little??? Atvb 3 Quote Link to post

Rez 4,961
Best rifle I've seen on THL in like 6 months. Envious. You've come away with a better rifle than you originally wanted by the looks of it. CS 500 woodwork always makes any rifle the dogs bollox. Saw this rifle on fbook. Loved it then, and love it now. 2 Quote Link to post
philpot 5,115
Don't be sorry for expressing your feelings Matt, sometimes far better to get things out in the open. I'm really sorry to hear of your plight but at least the guy who sold you the gun was honourable in his dealings with you which gave you choices. I hope you are happy with the replacement gun. pianoman 3,589
Aww you're bloody joking Matt! I'm so sorry mate to read this about your Pro Sport. It looked so lovely too. BUT...This why I bought mine new. You never know what bad luck you might have until you get her home, what sort of shape she's in on the inside. The Air Arms manual for the Pro Sport warns against overtightening the stockbolts, especially about the trigger guard unit and other screw fixings. But there you go. Someone didn't read the bloody manual! But, as a devout HW80 .22 owner and utterly proud of my 18 year old 'musket' well done on the one you now own and I'm absolutely certain, she'll put this nightmare behind you. All the best with your HW80 Matt she looks a lovely gun. Simon 1 Quote Link to post

It's just a bugger as I've been looking for a ps at the right money for a long time. Hey ho as they say. I'm looking forward to seeing yours pal. Has it arrived safe and sound? 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Yes she has! I fitted the action into a Beech stock that Jimmy/Bigmac97K has converted to left hand friendly for me. The walnut stock mine came with is absolutely beautiful in its figures and grain and getting 'converted' at the minute to left-hand status.. A few stiff creaks from the underlever and a fair number of fliers with Air Arms Field 5.52mm but, by the end of the session, she was bedding-in nicely and putting pellet on pellet at my Maximum 35-metre garden range. And in a stiff wind too. I'm starting to gel with her. I have to say, when she's finished and running as smoothly as I want her, she will quite possibly, be the best air rifle I have ever owned. And that's saying something for the awesome Weihrauch spring rifles I own. 2 Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
Sorry to hear that Matt - it's a real pisser when something like that happens But, I reckon you've come out of it very nicely with that mate ...... I've never had a Paul Short rifle but, I've only ever heard good things about his work and, as already said, that stock and shroud are some classy touches I don't like break barrels but, I could be tempted by that. Atb mate Cheers Jon.It's A bummer but when I look at all the little things that were wrong with it, I would have been a pillock to start packing it out with washers to get the power up. I just can't get my head around why someone would be so clumsy in working on such a lovely and expensive rifle in the first place. 1 Quote Link to post
