Given Hatty A Facelift!

Recommended Posts

Just a quick one lads.

As you know I was very kindly given this hatsan and the lad had sanded the stock back and just tung oiled her which left it quite pale so on Friday night I rubbed it down to 400 grit and then on Saturday I went and picked up some walnut stain.

One very thin coat was applied as this wood which I think is beech seems very pourus even when sanded super smooth and left to dry.

If I had thought at the time maybe I should have sealed it first to even out the coverage as it's quite mottled with a bit of stripeing on the opposite side but to honest I don't mind it.

After that was completely dry I gave her 4 coats of true oil with a 0000 wire wool inbetween and here she is. By no means perfect but I like the colour much better now.

The pics actually make it look lighter than it really is too.

ATVB Matt.

Looks ace now Matt

I don't like lite stocks, first thing I do is darken them up.... badly :)

Atb si

Cheers Si.

It was definately too pale but I was too eager to get out and use it before staining it.

It's not perfect but like you said, I prefer it darker?
