Out early to check the snares this morning. I never was any good at snaring and things haven't changed much :)

off then to our permission for a bit of ferreting. As a rule I do the fields by the house where I thought the rabbits were. Thick old hedges and hard work but for a change I decided to do his fields the other side of valley. Only 4 little fields but looked good in the distance. I started walking the boundary hedge and straight away could see signs about and looked good. I kept the dog on a lead to start as the other side of the hedge was a load of pigs chickens and all sorts. His fine with them but if a rabbit went that way he wouldn't think twice of storming through the lot and it just wouldn't look good. Sure enough he pointed at a little gorse bush and out popped a rabbit and nipped over the boundary. Once we got clear I Iet him off. Didnt take long before he put one up in the hedge. I saw it go down a hole but he didn't mark instead he pointed at a little breath hole and I could tell the rabbit was right there under his nose.

Could only see a couple of holes one each side of the hedge. So ferret in then she came out the other side went back through and nothing. Put the old veteran jill in and she came out of a bolt hole the other side so it looked like the rabbit had snuck out while I was netting up. The sly sod.

We started walking around the field and the dog went through the hedge and I found him marking.

I could hear the rabbit thumping as I netted up so this was a dead cert. While netting I saw another rabbit go to ground a bit further along so I netted that at the same time. Fair play the dog has lots of patience and just sat there waiting. So ferret in and rabbit straight out

I left the nets down and popped her in the second set of holes

and again a pretty instant bolt. I thought it was quite funny I spent an age setting about 20 nets and 3 stop nets and the rabbit just bolted straight out the hole i had put the ferret in

Yes I often turn around after I have bagged a few. Just popped out with the lamp while there was a bit of cloud. They ran well tonight and he didn't have it easy for a change
