Out Watching And Then Preparing The Hides For Winter Shooting.

Recommended Posts

I`ve been watching and taking note of the times the pigeons are coming in to rest or settle for the long cold nights.

From around 11-30 am the wood pigeons are coming into this large solitary tree for a rest before flying off again to feed.

Then from approx.` 2pm onwards they start to drift back in one`s and two`s.

The hide is a natural hide inside a well honed and internally shaped privot hedge that stays green all year and I use it all year.

You cannot walk within a hundred yards of these truly wild wood pigeons, ( not the park,or hand fed one`s Mac & VM shoot  )

So here`s the natural hide again that you`ve seen in the Summer months.

This natural is built 28 yds from the large sitty tree.

Here`s the view the hunter sees.

A little trick I was shown years ago is to leave a length of old brush handle, painted black, sticking out of the hide where your barrel would be on hunting days - the pigeons get so used to it that it helps you greatly with very flighty pigeons, come the day you want to shoot.

Hard to make out, as I didn`t want to spook these two Bandits ( no camo` no gloves or face veil) if you look dead centre of the photo and then draw your sight slowly right, look how close, Bandits (2) within 25 yds and settled down,- they had no idea I was there.

Hi Jonjon, when I can get away from work and blasted xmas duties I`ll be going mate.

The bit that will intrigue me is the calibre question - that tree is 28 yds from my very good hide.

HW 100 KT .177 AA Fields 8.4 g and the TX 200 HC mk3 .177 JSB Exact Express 7.87 g.

V

HW 100 KS .22 using FAP`S 13.43 g

All trajectories will be on an equal plane through those spindle branches.

Just wondering what a standard wood pigeon is then Marko? :D

I hope I haven't been bagging some old dears pets all this time. Wish I could find a hand fed one too :)

That's spot looks mint by the way. Get the old TX out, obviously.
