Dave's Sheep Paddock

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys. I woke up Friday morning packed the car and headed to Dave’s place (a local permission). The plan was to do a couple of easy sets take a good look around the sheep paddock and give the dogs a good run, all before the weather got too hot.

This time of year the sun limits your time out in the field, not so much the dogs that can’t hack it but the ferrets don’t like it, they then prefer the cool of the burrow rather than the heat streaming in from the entrance so they lay up.

The day went according to plan, I found quite a few new sets better suited for 2 people being on both sides of a high barbed wire fence ( I will get them next time I’m out with my daughter or friends) I did a few easy sets, dogs got a good run and a swim.

I ended the day with 10 in the esky and few killed underground, that’s more than a dozen Dave won’t have to worry about digging holes and eating grass, as a bonus on the way out I met a nice lady neighbour, and got permission to do her place as well.

Another great day out in the country with the dogs and ferrets. Got to love it!

Enjoy A.T.B Doug

Great write up; I'm suitably jealous.

SirBlessed: You can definitely get it "down there" and there are a few writers from Australia who contribute to the magazine.

Bird: I fell off a chair a tad over two years ago and landed with the top of the chair slamming into the small of my back (I was secreting kids presents in the secret hiding place at the top of my wardrobe) and I still find that if I sit at a funny angle on the sofa I know I'll wake up with a bad back again and regret it. As for EDRD articles; I read it for years before I summoned up the courage to write an article. I just felt that, because mine weren't earth dogs or running dogs, my antics wouldn't interest anyone. Then when I finally did send a few in, somebody wrote to the letters page complaining about the non-terrier and lurcher articles which had been increasing so I stopped again for a couple of years. To be honest, the main reason I started up again a few years ago was because I'm writing a children's book and the articles was good practice...and a distraction when I had writers block! :D

I'll have to search out some of those articles from under the bed (how sad is that; keeping EDRD rather than porn under the bed :icon_redface: ).

As for the back pain; I used to rest it, thinking that was the best thing to do, but I now find that keeping it exercised is best...lots of long walks with the kelpies! Lubrication helps too...in the form of a pint of Fursty Ferret! :toast:
