trenchfoot 4,243
I've been casting an eye over some of the breedings of coursing dogs from the 80's and 90's. Many seem to have been bred from traditional type lurchers to a saluki x. Then from there bred and inter bred with more saluki x's. I'm a great advocate for using coursing type dogs to add to a line of lurchers, but my question is, are there any dogs that have added recent infusion of traditional lurcher that perform to the standards of the old coursing dogs? 1 Quote Link to post
C.green 3,233
Dunno whether he performs to the standard of some of the old dogs but my dogs lurcher blood to a line bred coursing bitch. Quite happy with him hes not perfect could do with more wind doesn't take a knock well but he does catch a good bit best I've done with him is 4 from 6 had a few 3s real good at tracking deer whether on fields or through woods had a few sets of teeth single handed tho I don't reckon he'd do numbers on em. Handy dog not top class but handy enough to keep me getting out. Had some stick and game for his age I think. There's a few lads seen some of his catches he's about 18 months old now tho could be Slightly older or younger. I reckon you'd have better results with a good fast up and at em lurcher to a GOOD pure and I do mean a good one not one that's ok when he gets there or would kill loads of it had a mouth. C.green 3,233
Arctic there's a litter I been keeping an eye on bred similar there not far off a year old now and they are proper pictures of dogs big strong things that have a good gallop in them. Deffo breeding I'd like to try think there be handy for long nights running from the motor. Yer gaz he abit lightly built like most coursing blood a lot stronger than he looks. He's had some stick but that's how I like to do things get a dog out early he was brought on with a dog that was very good in the day and just naturally started finding and catching in the day. Anyone who thinks it's done him harm pm me I'm allways up for a friendly night out and there's plenty of game here apart from rabbits. Quote Link to post
