Who Needs Fac Air

Recommended Posts

Went out yesterday evening to a salad farm . The owner has about 20 acres of land ,growing salad and veg .

I have been shooting here for the past 4 years and got to know him quite well now and he has also introduced me to two more land owner which i shoot on now , the one woman has had many knocks on the door also letters through asking for permission to shoot but she has turned them away for the last ten years , in fact she did say no to me at first but about 4 months ago she meet me for a talk and said you do come highly recommended and very pleasant person to know and i will give you a trial shoot .

Well after the trial shoot ,she turned around and said just carry on and i wish i gave you permission years ago .

Back to the salad farm , well he has been having a big problem with a hare , I don't normally shoot hares ,i think they are a lovely animal to watch and not that many down our way either.

I have seen it on a few occasions but could not get close to it ,until yesterday evening , spotted it at 100 yards away then it got closer and closer then went away again . so waited for it again then at 65 yards it popped out again , this time i thought this is my chance , up came the gun to the shoulder ,2 mill dots hold over , pulled the trigger and watched it go down without a kick .

So is it worth all the agro going FAC when you know your setup and what you are capable of !!

All rabbits and hare were shot with HW100k .177 using Airmax scope , AA express 7.9 gr pellets and all head shots on a sunny evening in Dorset

Nice shooting vm

Regarding the fac air, it is a bit of a fath sorting it but it opens up more opportunities!

Like your long shot I took one on a rabbit at just under 60m a couple of weeks back, like you 2m/d

H over and perfect shot placement... It bowed it's head and did two kicks!

But at that distance it Dosent take much too be slightly off and leave it injured which is not what we want and a follow up shot at that range isn't an easy task!!

If using a .22 at say 40flb any head shot will dispatch instantly just from impact and retained energy!

A lot of my my hunting shots are at the far end of a 12flb range due to not being able to get much closer,

I've been shooting a lot of crows recently and have noticed bounce offs, not at stupid ranges either, but I know if it was a .22 fac I was using it would of been a different matter!

I'm not interested in a rimfire for fur and feather work, it defeats the love of the air rifle!

Just my opinion though... Hopfully I'll have mine soon!

Most of us have cars and the motorway limit is 70, I bet most of us sit on a mway at just under 90!

So if you had a 12flb rifle and the ability to knock it up too say 20 would you be tempted when that 70m shot is on th cards?!

Only thing is you need the fac to be able to have that option!

I'd sooner use the right tool for the job, different when you're plinking at targets, when it comes to live quarry and you regularly shoot at 50/60 yards then I don't think a 12flb airgun is the ideal choice. If you've got that kind of permission then it shouldn't be difficult to get a ticket , facs are cheaper too!

Like i have said get to know your set up and what your self can do and ideal weather conditions these ranges are OK pellet with a pellet speed at 810 fps

Out a couple of weeks back on a woody session with my mate I set off for a mooch to get the birds moving about!!

I'd walked a good half mile knowing that they would go in the general direction of my mate...

The woodys where a good distance into the field with no cover for me what so ever, so I shot at them knowing they would

Take off!

I hit the pigeon at I recon 80 m there was no chance of a kill, it was to purely move them on.... So there's no question of accuracy with a sub 12 it's what it retains and limits you too!

The hw110 is great free rover tool

Although I don't really see the point in FAC air, i also don't understand the "less is more" theory either. If you want to improve your fieldcraft by having to get closer to shoot stuff, why not tune them down to 6ft/lbs so you have to get really, really close instead?

Just because anyone can buy a sub-12, doesn't make that a magic figure. If the rules were sub 10 or sub 14, would that be the new magic figure?

It's all about using the right tool in the right circumstances surely?

Nice shooting mate ,Theres loads of smaller rabbits about just now and it doesnt take a lot of effort to shoot them till they wise up .But its always the better longer shots that you will remember
