These are two of the three. I traded the third to a very good border collie man from Wisconsin for 2nd pick of her litter. I don't have a picture of her on my phone. The two pictures above are from right at the time I got them. They are in much better shape now. Both bite both ends and both are hard biting dogs. Both know their job well but the younger of the two (split faced female) doesn't know all of the whistle commands yet. That doesn't matter a whole lot because I will teach them my own set of whistles as they learn to hunt here. By the end of summer I should have made my choice between the two. As of right now I'm leaning towards the older female as she's got some traights I just can't ignore. One of them being that she trees like a old squirrel dog.

They are both panning out well and I'll be breeding one to my stag Duce and the other to an American Leopard Hound of mine for making a fresh batch of bobcat dogs.

I like the look of the one in bottom pic.

I have my eye on a 8 month old bitch, known it since a pup. Farm bred, pricked eared,good shape and nice size.

Lads not doing so good with it,he doesn't know what he's got or how to handle it.

I've said if he doesn't do anything with it, it'll end up going insane and just be called another mad collie.

Can't get through to the lad.

I know another lad it would suit also.

Pity to see it not reaching its full potential.

The bottom of the two is the better dog at this point, though the top one is better looking in the picture. I'm still looking around for a top stud. There are some nice dogs around but I hate taking seconds so it will take me a little while to find a real genius. I have some time to go looking this summer and that's just what I'm going to do. In the mean time, if they both came into heat today I would go with Polly, the tri colored female. Maggie is great but needs to get some age on her she's only 20 months old. It's lucky that not everyone is a good judge of dog flesh or I wouldn't have the two I have. When you see someone that has a dog that is way better than they know don't complain, just get your money out.

 

By the way, coyotes are very adept at biting a dog just where they want and it's smooth as butter when they go to punishing a dog for grabbing it. I can't think of a great way to explain it other than to say it looks very practiced when you see it. Polly has that way about her and works with her mouth as well as a man works with his hands. It's just a little something I noticed about her when I first got her and she didn't want me messing with her collar. I think it's a step above the cut and something not to be ignored. If you've seen what I'm talking about this will make sense but if you haven't this will sound a little stupid. Just something to look for in a good dog and kind of the same thing that makes some folks good at playing musical instruments at a level that others struggle at.

I haven't made the cross myself but I have hunted quite a bit with one that is nearly the same and this dog could catch bobcats at will that would keep other dogs chasing for hours. The dogs name was Camo and she was 1/2 leopard, 1/4 plott and 1/4 border collie.

I hope you come across the dog your looking for this summer and the 2 you have turn out good.

It is a difficult thing to explain what your talking about, that old dog of mine had a presence about him and he never bothered with folk, unless he wanted too and even then would turn his back on them.

You just know a good dog.
