Yes. With a 35 grain pill you should be able to get up around the 3800 fps mark, if that is what you are after. I've never used any lighter than a 40 grain in my .223 though.

Thanks I've never really thought of using the 35 always used the 40 but wanted to use something faster if it groups ok

Tried some 35gr when I had a .223, shot like a 'scattergun' but Chrono'd @ 3800fps.

No need dan hit them hard enough with the 223 dead is dead just wanted to try something a bit faster for long distance crows so a 22 250 would be to expensive for twatting crows all day

£3 per box difference. That's 15p per shot, and even then it depends on the brand as Federal are cheaper in .22-250 than .223!

 

Personally, I would think if you can afford to use a .223 on crows, you can afford to use .22-250.

 

If you want to hit crows, personally I'd see if your rifle likes Privi as then you can knock £10 a box off the price of either and a bird isn't going to care if it's a soft point or a nosler.

 

The real question is whether you want the expense of changing the gun as that's the real cost. Other alternative on either calibre is to reload.

 

My real reservation would be whether or not you're going to start wearing the barrel with 35gr because you're into the 4,000fps area and crow shooting can be repetitive.

Thanks for replying but that's it I don't want to change rifle and I can reload but just fancied something different just to see what they group like and velocity etc

Never entered my head untill I saw the hornet thread and saw a box of 35 grain

Just wondering now what powder would be best with this bullet and how many grains etc

He thought about the .338 but found it not enough gun for them scary Welsh hills....so opted for the .458 Winchester in the end

 

Ought to just take out a Welsh fox humanely Just.

Do you know the twist rate of the barrel on your .223 Slips?

 

Generally slower, like 1 in 12 etc is better for lighter long bullets.
