What Cartridge Would You Recommend

Recommended Posts

Its 12g ok thats a start, are you shooting clays.......vermin......pigeons......duck later in the year.......foxes? what are the specs on the cartriges he chucked in? if they are a 24 gram clay load of no7/12 s no they wont have much whack, it is very hard for us to advise on a suitable load, is your gun 2/34 or 3 inch chambers, steel proof etc etc, give us some more info and we might stand a chance mate.

Looking on Gamebore's own site I cannot find a country classic listed by them, so they may be old stock he wanted to give away, let us assume your gun is 2/34" chambers, this will be stated on the barrels, a decent 32 gram load of number six or five's will do everything you require, for your intended quarry, pick a good brand like Gamebore,Hull, Eley etc, and you wont go far wrong mate, always check with a qualified gunsmith, if in any doubt, but I would bet on it having 2/34 " chambers mate.

It might also be that your gun is choked more openly than the gun you previously used. Even with a substantial cartridge if you are shooting a very open choke then you'll not get enough pellets hitting the quarry to deliver the quick kill you are maybe used to at a given distance. I'd perhaps pattern it as well as checking the shot size of the cartridge.
