I climbed over surprised at my new found height, got set up, checked zero, went to get over the gate to get to the paddocks and the entire gate moved towards me. I stopped dead. The entire gate (both sides) had been lifted off the pins on the posts and just propped against them. I phoned up the permission holder and he sent someone down to examine them. I told the guy that they must have had three or four there to lift them off as they were big old gates. I said "Look they are heavy." and lifted the end a foot in the air with one hand! So we put the gates back on the pins. I remembered where there was some rope lying around, so at the bottom of the gates I put a couple of coils round and tied the gates to the posts with double reef knots in amongst all the thistles, brambles and nettles. Hopefully if they go back to move them they will find a nasty surprise. Set up under a laurel bush and waited. Rabbit emerged from the nettles, 20 metres, in zero, target, aim, bunny down. Stalked round and saw one on the track edge, aimed through the trees, 30 metre shot, rabbit down. Last one was a kitt, well I thought it was, seemed to have a small head, lined up the shot, got it, got through the ditch of doom to find a decent sized rabbit. Oh well out, 3 dead, not even a magazine of shots taken! Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701 Posted May 27, 2016 Author Report Share Posted May 27, 2016 there are some d!ckheads about mole nice shooting, the ditch of doom sounds fun atb si Armpit high nettles on the approach then down a 5 ft minimum drop into brambles, nettles and usually 6 inches of mud before a 5 ft climb up through brambles and nettles, great fun to get up to the top and then discover the bloody rabbit has rolled down the bank... My last comment almost got me shot by the snipers on their gate tower when told I will have to sort through bag by one in particularly grumpy ba#*×Rd, I told him that the council do not provide my house with dog s#*t bins to put poo bags in but if he wants to spend his afternoon sifting through the contents of my dogs a#*e he can bloody well do it without my help.......my cards have been marked I think. 1 Quote Link to post

Hopefully if they go back to move them they will find a nasty surprise. Sounds like the gate hasn't been fitted with security in mind. This is one of mine. Sometimes the gate is worth more than what it protects. The top hinge should always point down, so it can't be lifted off. Nice result from a hunting foray though. Pesky Quote Link to post
