Sophies First Rabbit

Recommended Posts

This is my little 'un with her first rabbit from late last summer.

She'd been shooting targets at different ranges for a while and, was doing well. She was using her BSA Goldstar se .177 with Bisley Magnums. We fitted a NS Viper and 23" bipod. It was just right for her to aim while on one knee.

We went to my rugby club permission. I carried the rifle and we both looked at the screen to spot the rabbits.

I missed an easy 20yrd rabbit in the car park.

We walked the usual places where I know they come out. We had 3 goes at getting her down behind the rifle but, they all ran before she could get on aim.

The last one was right out in the open, on one of the pitches. We managed to get the rifle down about 35ish yrds away. The rabbit was alert and, turned to face us. Before I could whisper to Sophie to wait, she put the crosshairs right between it's eyes and sqeezed the trigger.

The pellet hit with a loud crack and, the rabbit did a big flip. I scooped up the gun and pulled out my torch. We got to it quick and, I got her to feel it's chest - it's heartbeat was just finishing.

So, that was it. A 2 hour trip. She fired 1 shot and got 1 clean rabbit. I missed an easy one - she loves to remind me about that now and again.

She was chuffed to bits. On the quarter mile walk back to the car, I carried the rifle, she carried her rabbit. All she wanted to tak about was what we were going to cook with it.

I can see Little Hunter outgrowing airguns in a few years. He sounds like a good lad and a credit to you.

Wonderful! Does you good to see the youngsters taking up with their dads and grandads. That's the future of our sport there, in these little hands. Well done Jon and Sophie, Mac and Little Hunter. Those beaming smiles don't fade with time when a good shot well taken brings another tasty rabbit or pigeon for the pot.!
