Yes, I agree,..and it is downright cruelty to take a full grown canine athlete, such as an ex racer,...a jukel that has been trained, conditioned, cosseted and kept in the manner of a Spartan warrior,

It was a real shame mate as he was turning into a nice handy dog .....

I reared a nice wee bitch and used her for the roe and hares,...she fecked em up,..and I do mean, proper fecked..   Never gave the game away and told her, that she wasn't a lurcher,..and she never

My mate got one about 7 years ago at 8 weeks old and had it as you would a lurcher. It done well in the daytime and at lamping but occasionally had trouble with knocking toes up, but for the amount of work he gave it nothing you wouldn't expect.

His friend had a pup a few years after that he still works that did very very well at a lot of stuff. I hunted with her a few times and she was very good. No problems with feet at all.

They got the pups from a friend who is a breeder / trainer.

from a pup the same way you would a lurcher and how did you fined it for staminer and durability ?

thanks.D

I had one not full grey but his mother was full an his dad three quarter grey whippet grey, as u would expect his top speed was frightening but only for a very short period and all stamina went to pot. I used him to sook stuff in an then my wee bitch done the rest, he had a few injuries thru lack off brains, all in all I wouldn't have another

my good friend used to have one but it met its end prematurely as it hit an old blow at full bore!1

was a handy enough dog, poor feet in my opinion and would spend his share of time in the sick bay with silly little injuries, but it was run on a large variety of quarry and lacked nothing in minerals. just not robust enough for me but then this was my only experience of them in there pure form.

We had a few when I was a kid and my dad raced them locally and also worked them, much to the annoyance of my grandad who also raced greyhounds. Of the 2 I can remember as a kid, the dog Called tom who raced a good level, was very capable in the field and not just on rabbits as we had other things hanging in the coal shed on occasions. He lived to a good age but ended up with a few toes off pretty sure these injuries were work related and not on the track. He was a big powerful dog around 30tts at a guess, I was a youngster at the time. The second one we had was a more of a distance bitch brought over from Ireland and slightly built around 27tts and she did plenty of work towards the end of her racing career, to my knowledge she never had a serious injury and lived out her time with us til the end, lovely natured bitch and people who say all greyhounds have no wind would change their view in my eyes if they say her run. There are a few lurcher lines around our way from the tom dog my dad owned the bitch was never breed sadly, and he kept a few within the family crossed with deerhound lurchers, from what my old man says the lurchers where more durable as you would expect and had plenty enough pace. He kept one I remember called Milly essentially a rough haired greyhound in looks and my uncle kept a her sister called Molly, both were (according to my dad at least) good workers I will try and get some old photos up at some point from my old man of these dogs. There was one my uncle put in the cmw a good while back of me and the two lurcher pups we kept in the family from the tom dog the dogs were bigger than me at the time atb
