I have caught Moles a couple of mins after setting the trap in the past, but this chap was pretty much straight away I had not finished back filling as it went off. But the pleasing thing of all was how fast the mole died, i would say death was fairly instant as soon as the trap fired I pulled the trap and it was just twitching nerves coming from the mole, as he was caught just behind the front paws the usual but not always strike from the Talpex .

If only all the Moles was this obliging .

i have tried getting moles to come in faster by placing 2 traps in a run ( feet apart) and some where between opening up the run so to cause a change in preasure. i did read or watch that moles will come to plug the hole as it senses a change..

if it worked im sure it would be getting done already. i didn't look at the traps until the day after so it turned out pointless :)

i have never caught a fast mole :(

Well done.

I set six snapper traps for rats in a shed one day and set the last one just inside the door.

As I closed the door I heard it snap and thought I'd set it to lightly but there was a rat in it. He couldn't have been more than a foot or two from my hand when I placed it on the ground.

A couple of years ago I was trapping moles in a field, had just made to cut into the run and smoothed and preparing the duffus. The mole appeared and continued walking through the open tunnel and disappeared again. Had no time to do anything other than be amazed.

I put the trap in, but the mole knew something, the next time I checked the trap it had been backfilled.

I now prepare trap first, then find run to put it in :rocker:

I like to think I'm pretty good at most Pest control issues, but after many years I'm still far from the best at moles.

2 of my guys are superb, one with any trap you like, but favours tunnel traps, and one with the gas, so in most situations I give them the jobs.

I still get a buzz out of catching them myself, but never that quick!

ATB!

I've done this loads of times, and several times on film too. I was once in a garden where the homeowner had been trying for a long time to get rid of this mole. He'd been using those huge monstrosities that stick out of the ground a foot. Anyway, I put a trap in, just covered it with soil and ...PING!. I pulled out a live mole. My next venture is to try and capture a coloured mole alive, and I know just the spot for it....

One way, to get them unharmed, is,... if you happen to stumble upon one, 'heaving up' , at the end of a line of hills (last couple ?).probe & dig out the sod quickly,a few meter back, (if you can) & get your spade/trowel blocking off, the run back,...wait for moley to shoot across, the opening, & make a grab for it, when he hits your spade ! ,....(first time, i grabbed it near the tail, & it swung round, & gave me a nip !,.....lol),......(second time i got a chance , i managed to get a hold of it, behind the front paws !)
