Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Well woke up at 3am and looked out of the window.. the roads were dry and the trees looked pretty still.. finally a break in the weather?! Got to the permission and had to set up a taget card with a torch laid on the floor next to it to check zero . Still bang on since last time i used it .. had a creep around with the hw100 and took a crow silhouetted with a nice 25 yard headshot. Couldnt see much else so went home and had some food and waited for it to start getting light. By this time the wind had picked up again and I didnt see anything else so had a plink before calling it a day. Shot a bottle at 30 yards and the right to left wind was that strong it took the .22 jsb about 4 inches from where i was aiming!! Mental wind. Still was nice to have a mooch about and take in the scenery 5 Quote Link to post

The one 8,592
At least you got something mate , its too windy to try and hold your breath and shoot between the gusts here Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
At least you got something mate , its too windy to try and hold your breath and shoot between the gusts here It was pretty much flat calm at 4-5 am but at 9am i think the gusts wereup to 45 mph if the wether report was correct!! And 4 inches windage at 30 yards is pretty mental haha Edited December 2, 2015 by Skot Ruthless Teale Quote Link to post
random 659
That is an early start and i suppose the early bird gets the .22!! It's nice when you check zero and find it still crack on,and I'm going to take chance here but that looks like a jackdaw? I know I'm probably wrong and going to get shot down for that but... Yokel Matt 918
You mean back when everyone rightly accepted that a .22 was the best caliber... Not like today's metrosexual society! It is a jackdaw - you did well to hit that in the dark. Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Yeah looking at the pic i think it was a jackdaw guys. Same silhouette as a crow lol. Deffo not an owl shape or anything like that so i knew it was safe to take the shot. Wanted some woodpigeons really but beggars cant be choosers lol 1 Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
You'd have know if it was an owl in the middle of a corvid roost mate - they'd all be in the air and would have been going ape-shit. Find a sheltered part of the wood, preferably with an ivy clad tree in the vicinity and with plenty of droppings on the floor and on a windy day you'll find the woodies looking for an easy lunch. That's a quality set up you have there and to be honest I think the caliber debate is irrelevant... bragging rights when something goes right and an excuse when it goes wrong. 1 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
I dont mind .177 or .22 they both do the same job just .177 is easier to use because of its flatter trajectory Quote Link to post
j j m 6,626
good shooting mate 1 Quote Link to post
random 659
Yeah looking at the pic i think it was a jackdaw guys. Same silhouette as a crow lol. Deffo not an owl shape or anything like that so i knew it was safe to take the shot. Wanted some woodpigeons really but beggars cant be choosers lol We would all like a woody when we get out mate, something in the bag is worth a walk though... Wasn't questioning you're identification just noticed it that's all so don't feel the need to justify the shot... Quote Link to post
