I took this the other day. Not the best quality as I was try to take a picture of the kestrel hovering then it got struck by the other bird the one on the left which flew off. I all happened very quickly. The kestrel fell to the ground, I waited for a bit but it did not fly off. I was not able to get into the field and check it was ok as I had my dogs with me.

 

Is it another kestrel or a sparrowhawk, I just wish I had a better shot.

Have to agree, it looks like a rival male.

Are Kestrels that territorial ? The looser probably sulked on the ground for a while.

Even so Pinnacle you were lucky to witness that, let alone catch it on camera.

We don't see as many Kestrels now as we used too.
