Water Voles

Recommended Posts

Certain types of land, you will see they share a little bit, both live just under the surface, and why dig your self a tunnel when one's already been dug. It's maybe the other way round, moles finding Vole runs and getting to work on them, just an observation, not done any scientific studies on them. Lots of animals that share habitats will share runs.

In many areas of France water voles have become entirely terrestrial and will colonse mole tunnels and dig their own tunnel systems that are only slightly different to mole tunnels. They have been declared a major nuisance in many departments.

As for what species you lot have trapped. I'm about to raise the bar :tongue2:

It had got in between the clod and trap hole. The trap site is a long term affair, probably had twelve or thirteen moles in it over six months or so, and the clod shrinks over time and has to be replaced. Looks like the snake slipped in and went over the trap the wrong way. Probably pushed the trigger over with a convulsion as it wriggled through the tunnel. The customer found it before I did. It was just over five foot long. Some knowledgable folk on here identified it as an Aesculapian snake.
