Flacko 1,756
Went out today with smellies and thought some times a smaller net would come in handy, so does any one use them and how small do you go. Flacko Quote Link to post
werbad 43
I have a hand full that I made to small so I use them on bolt holes Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,829
Handy small nets around cover, will purse up a lot faster than big nets so less chance of a snag and lost rabbit.I set the net then get the peg in as far away from net as possible around cover then they start drawing straight away. I make my nets 4ft and 4ft 6 normally but always have a few small ones and always carry a few poke nets. Just my personal opinion though. 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,598
I go back to my three foot hemp nets if I'm ferreting in a lot of brambles but mostly I just use four foot spun nets if I miss the odd rabbit I will pick it up later in another burrow usually digging it out Quote Link to post
Flacko 1,756
Yes lads that's what I meant done a hedgerow and found my usual nets snagging also round bolt holes my nets seem to large to purse quick enough the cover & root system if you know what I trying to say atb Flacko Quote Link to post
The one 8,598
In hedge rows and cover your nets will snag and if your by yourself or slow off the mark your going to miss a rabbit or two with the nets been slow to purse but put a net on the runs each end of the burrow your working and you should pick up any missed rabbits running up or down the hedge 1 Quote Link to post
leethedog 3,071
We use nets ranging from 2ft - 5ft all 2inch mesh they all have their uses 5ft are double draw cord and peg Quote Link to post
Flacko 1,756
The one I did have my back up nets across runs at either end but just thought a few smaller nets be handy & was on my own slow of the mark never like a coiled spring me when I ferreting I wish lol was on a bit unconfirmed permission atb Flacko Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,829
I like a small net in heavy cover as said earlier, i like them poke net style also, they draw up faster i think, different sizes are handy to have. On clean ground i use 4' 6" poly nets mainly, you don't fiddle about as much setting them on the bigger holes. Good interesting thread this Flacko. ATB. 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,598
If you working burrows I just feed more of the net into the floor of the burrow but in cover there's not much you can do with a four foot net and it can be a hindrance 1 Quote Link to post
NELS0N 457
double pegged in thick cover, peg down the burrow and short lines. the net will close faster. If your using smaller nets then ideally you want a bigger than 4" full mesh. you want the rabbits head through the mesh, less chance of it being thrown off IMO. 1 Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,293
do you mean purse nets? A couple seasons ago we were doing a lot of forestry, with a lot of brush on the floors, and when setting purse nets they were often becoming snagged and full a twigs and stuff so my ferreting partner ordered a few 2 and half foot purse nets, and ye know what, they worked perfectly, dont get me wrong we still had use 4 fters on some of the bigger holes but majority could be done easier with 2 and half footers, truth being told, they was a god send, I keep saying I gonna order some more but still not got round to doing it yet Make some yourself ya fanny If you do a couple of rows every time you piss someone off on here,by my calculations you,ll have a bagful by Tuesday 1 Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
I was given a dozen nets at about 3ft with my ferrets and they caught everything that hit them last year so I've made anot her dozen at the same size as well as a load at 4ft. Quote Link to post
