stealthy1 3,964
I was asked not so long ago by an old land owner that I've known since I was a kid, did I ever get sick of killing things? My answer was that the killing had no bearing on what I did, and that if I was shooting, then every good shot that took the animal out instantly was the goal, and the death of the animal played no part in what I did, only that it was swift, and that the animal did not suffer at all. His next question was, if all forms of hunting were banned, would I still continue with what I did, and did I have other sustainable country pursuits. If it was against the law I don't think I would, I do have other interests in the countryside that I would carry on with, but does anyone else?
Born Hunter 17,956
Yes, but in reality I'd emigrate. f**k sticking around such a depressingly shit country in that scenario. Leave it to the lefties, that'd cross a line for me. I'd loose any sense of belonging on this island.

treecreeper 1,136
I don't enjoy killing things but law wouldn't stop me doing what I need too, theres only the BBC and numptys have a Disney outlook. Hunting is good for wildlife and the economy whether they like it or not.
stealthy1 3,964
There is a debate on going at the minute to ban catch and release fishing, because the fish are caught over and over again. A mate went fishing to some country, can't remember where, they told him that keep nets were banned and that you had to kill all you caught, catch and release is classed as a blood sport in some country's. He said when he was challenged he had 5 bream in his net and that he had to kill them and take them home, or fall fowl of the law.

Leave it to the lefties, that'd cross a line for me. I'd loose any sense of belonging on this island. Difficult one as I'd b gutted, but doubt I'd emigrate, I don't think I could leave Britain, but I think k I'd carry on hunting, maybe not as much as not as open, but I'd still feel the need to be out at night and day break, magine a life always thinking ad wondering about hunting, but not being able to do it, fcuk em I say. Folk were running lurchers on these islands when it was a serious offence, worst they can do these days is put you in a cushy cell with a tele, I'll never stop till my body can't do it anymore I'd break the law without a doubt. But there's more to life than looking over your shoulder all the time for a quick run, f***ing about with catapults and checking the odd snare. Not to mention the penalties and social implications of getting caught doing something that for a total ban to come into action must have massive and drastic social backing/change. Such a society would be so alien to me I'd feel like the only black sheep in a flock of 70M! To properly lose, hunting, game shooting, stalking, terrier work, lurcher work etc etc would be a terrible reality for me. For British society to get to that stage would completely kill my sense of care for Britain. I'd turn my back on the country and find one that actually wants me for what I am. All of our individual situations are different. It's also finding the right country for you, I'm not sure I'd move to a specific country just based on the their hunting laws......there would have to be more to it for me. That said, a total & complete ban on all hunting would probably be severe enough for me to start looking......

There are of course other considerations that are just as important. Life isn't all about hunting.... I can't see past N.America at the moment as a complete package. But I'd hate to be pushed to that point, it's not something I want to do.

Born Hunter 17,956
I'm already looking at a move to Australia for these reasons, and others. Hope to be there within 5 yrs. Oz is looking a bit dicey at the minute don't you think? I fear their lucrative mineral mining days that drove their economic boom are behind them.... That doesn't spell doom, lol, just uncertainty in their future. Edited September 11, 2015 by Born Hunter
