Got out myself last week, here's my write-up... "Not a single shot fired, saw just 2 bunnies doing 100mph, f*cking 'dire' would describe the session" 3 Quote Link to post

Daz39 962
The wife's away with the kids this week so Mac's Taxi Tank turned up about 8 last night at mine and we went up to the perm. 3 of the fields are still nipple high with wheat, 1 field is just left to 2 foot high grass, so after scoping up and having a quick look in the paddocks (where Mac shot but lost the first rabbit of the night) we went over the road onto the main field. It was still light so no NV needed yet, Mac and I split at the island and after watching a few rabbits run into the same spot I went and laid up about 35 yards out. Sure enough, 10 mins later and the first rabbit jumps through the brambles and 5 ft into the field. I gave 1 mil hold under as he was no more than 15 yards away and watched him flip backwards into the hedge - arse. I stayed put and within 5 more mins another rabbit comes out 35 yrd off, he went down and didn't flip so one in the bag. I walked the rest of the field and scared 5-6 off into bushes, so I decided to turn back to the tank. I walked all the way back and couldn't find Mac at all. When I got to the tank I saw 3 little rabbits down an alleyway. They were in a perfect line about 1 yrd apart, one behind the next. I aimed for the middle one, thinking if I am short, I get the first, if I am long I'll get the back one....I didn't get any of them...too busy thinking about a "3 rabbits in one shot"...nowt. It was dark by now and my NV was in the tank so I had to resort to the lamp, now the rabbits here normally do one right sharp on the lamp so I wasn't expecting much. Walking back round again 3-4 rabbits here and there running on the lamp so I decided to lay up at one part which is illuminated by the factory lights and the full moon last night. Again, rabbit comes out about 18-20 yards off, 1 dot hold under and he flips but into the field. I watch him lay totally still, then after 1-2 mins he gets up, and slowly hops towards the hedge, but all drunk like, hop - sway - still, hop - sway - still.....as if he'd been down the bigg market (locals only). He was so slow I just walked over to him and picked him up, I assumed it was just nerves as I could see the pellet entry/exit in the normal spot. I dispatched him quick but that was a little freeky. I bagged him and moved on to aother spot, this time 2 smaller rabbits didn't run on the lamp so I got to 30 yrds and took one out, the other running off. Then 3 more off to my right, I started to walk over but spooked them, they ran to the hedge line so I went prone and took a shot from 38 yrds paced and down one went. I baged the bunnies and saw Mac's red lamp pointing all over the place so I just stood and waited on him. He comes up with a big grin and 2 big rabbits on his hip "TWO he says" "FOUR I reply". As we headed back to the tank Mac spots a rabbit and stalks over to it. I've seen him do this time and again mind, I sware he's just going to tickle the damn rabbit under the chin. He got to within 13-14 yrds and I'm 40 yrd back screaming in my head "JUST FOOOOOOKIN SHOOT HIM".... just as Mac raises the rifle the rabbit runs. "Did you just want a cuddle off that one then mate?" I asks, "Daz man, it's my bloody eyes, I need to get close so I can see em". My kill zone is 30-40 yards, Mac's seems to be 30-40cm. We went back for a bit of bait and I called security on site to see who was working (my other perm is my work perm that sits in the middle of this field). There are 4 blokes, 1 is an utter anti-hunter and when I'm on site, he walks round sounding the bloody air horn or blowing a whistle - wanker....., another dude is ok but is very black and white on rules, only lets me on site, a 3rd is odd, he wants all the pelts off the rabbits and make COSTUMES out of them, no shit....he worries the crap out of me, but last night the 4th lad was on, and he's ok when I take someone else on to site, so we nipped onto work site for a couple of hours. Right out of security Mac sees 3-4 run across the car park, and 2-3 over on the front lawn, he runs after those so I went right and over the the front entrance. I had the NV on by now and could see 10-12 in 2 groups on the grass, as I walked over I had to walk through a spot light and they all fecked off so I picked a spot and laid up about 40 yrds from the fence line. Within 30 mins 3 different rabbits had come out of the fence and run towards me, clearly no idea that I was there with the NV. I took one at 16, one at 18 and one at 23 yrds over the 30 mins, a perfect arc of rabbits laid out when I put the torch on to look for them. I walked back round to where Mac was and he goes, "ah ffs, I thought I'd done well, 2 in the bag, but bloody hell you've got 2 aswell"........ "No mate, THREE" We went round the back of site, Mac AGAIN trying to get close enough to pick up the damn rabbits rather than shoot them, got to 20 yds and spooked a rabbit off. It ran away to his right between the tennis courts so he followed it down. It turns out, when he went down there (I was off somewhere else missing 2 clear shots on 2 different rabbits), he shot the first rabbit, then saw 2 more and cleaned them out too! Right place, right time fella eh? This time Mac had the bigger grin. I hadn't gotten any more so was sat at 7, with Macs 5 here he also had 7 for the night and we decided to come off the site and have one last walk around the field. As we signed out of security, Mac says "I'm gonna have a quick tab, go have one last look on the lawn"...so I went out and spotted 2 off over the car park. Now the car park has lamps dotted all over, so it was hop from shadow to shadow time but I got to 45-50 yards and had a choice, break from shadow or take a standing shot supported against a lamp (no bulb in this one). I lined up the shot with a mil dot hold over and dropped the rabbit at 48 yrds paced. 8-7 for the night. We didn't get anymore rabbits, but Mac suggested driving the tank round the field and shooting out of that. We started with him in front and me in the back, but the window only came down halfway and it didn't give me much room for spotting let alone shooting. It was more than a tad bumpy too. At one point, Mac decides to open the sun roof, "here get up there and shoot out of that". So in a sceen out of FURY, I'm stood up, hanging out of the sun roof while he drives round the bumpiest field ever. My ribs are black and blue from bumping off the roof with every jolt. I sware to god Mac was looking for every rut and hole he could find. Suffice to say, that didn't work either. By the time we spotted a rabbit on the headlight, it ran, if we drove with the lights off using NV only, every time I told Mac to stop he did a full on emergency break, slamming my ribs into the roof time and time again.... Any how, we went back to clean up the 15 rabbits, by the time Mac dropped me home it was 4am, my kit stank of blood and guts, so I stripped off, stuck it all in the washing machine and stood washing the rabbits in the sink......in me pants.....at 4:30 am.....f-in mental. You could tell the wife was away mind! Rabbits went to the butcher Mac, I told him to have a look over 'em, make sure they are ok and I'll see what he gives us later in the week but I figure 10 good size and a couple of smaller ones, should be £25 at least. But he was over the moon, says he's not been able to get any rabbits since we took the last lot in. He also said he'll take the hares too mate...(He did ask about seasons but I had no clue) so if you and Visla bag any, I'll give you his number and you can just pop in with em. Right, I best go clean up as our lass is due back tonight.... 6 Quote Link to post

Some of mine should be a bit less wordy! The perm this year has been good. I have only been able to get out once a month, but haven't taken less than 6 on a trip out. With Mac I think we have had 3-4 double figure bags this year off there. And as Mac says, the crop is due to be cut soon so we will have 3 more fields to hit. 2 Quote Link to post
