walshie 2,804
I've been reliably informed my farm pond has tench and rudd in it. There are signs of life on the surface (rudd I presume) and a fair few of the tiny tench bubbles. Haven't had a chance to fish it yet, but I've been looking daily to see if I can see anything. Last week on a couple of occasions I saw a school/shoal/herd of about 100 of what looked like goldfish near the surface. They were all about 1" long. Here's my townie question of the day: If no fish have been introduced to this pond for at least 5 years (possibly longer) are these just stunted fish from that long ago, or are they babies and their parents are in there somewhere? Please tell me the parents have to be at least 4lbs to reproduce. It's a common mistake when people see Rudd for the first time, especially in sunshine. They literally glow in the sunny top layers of water. When true goldfish breed in the 'wild' they revert back to their natural olive/brown 'natural'carp colour in most of the cases after the first generation. Get some floating casters sprayed out one evening and see if any big rudd come up for them...
